FStream 1.4.1 (Mac OS X)

One of my favorite apps

I just love this little app. With every little update this seemingly perfect little program just keeps getting better. If you like internet radio, don't bother with the iTunes behemoth or browser plugins, let the lightweight and excellent-sounding FStream handle the job. It stores all of your favorite stations in an easily-accessible playlist, and also come's pre-loaded with a Shoutcast, SourceMac, and iTunes lists of internet radio stations. Everyone should find something they'll enjoy listening to without hogging precious computer resources in the process. [alert admin]

VueScan 8.4.89 (Mac OS X)

Excellent product and support

I've been a professional version license holder (with unlimited lifetime updates) for a couple of years, and have never had an issue with this excellent program until the 8.4.88 update, which caused some minor software instability within VueScan when using my Epson 4990 via Firewire (USB worked fine). I contacted Ed with the information requested in the troubleshooting steps, and heard back within a few hours. After a couple emails back and forth and downloading a maintenance version of 88, the Firewire issue was fixed. I see a reviewer down below was upset because having only paid for the Standard version (1 year update period) and having an update break his scanner he was unable to receive an archived version. It may sound harsh, but with any software, you should back up before updating. Another is upset because he bought it and it doesn't work with his all-in-one. VueScan is a fully-functional demo. Did you try it before you bought it? And yet this is somehow the developers fault? VueScan is an excellent product. It creates beautiful scans and in many cases much faster than Epson Scan at similar settings. The scanner compatibility list is unmatched and the developer support is fast and personal. I highly recommend this product. [alert admin]

Adobe Reader 8.1.2 (Mac OS X)

Don't need it

Skim does an excellent job of displaying PDFs, much better than Preview. Skim (or Preview) are more than adequate for most Mac users instead of this pig. [alert admin]

Microsoft Office 2004 11.3.6 (Mac OS X)

Updater killed Office suite

Used Auto Update to download this update. Once downloaded, the app did nothing, installation never took place. Now, I have a suite of Office apps that will not launch. Thanks MS and the MBU. BTW - manually downloading the update after trying the AU doesn't work either. [alert admin]

GrowlCamino 0.99 (Mac OS X)

Essential!

This functionality should be built in to OSX if you ask me. Camino and Growl is a winning combination and gives needed notifications without being overly intrusive. Excellent example of great 3rd party software! [alert admin]

No Prob

Auto Update worked as expected. No problems, apps all launch without somehow destroying my MBP. Under Rosetta, Office works as good as some OSX programs, which we're lucky it even works at all. We knew MS was going to be a while with a rewrite seeing how it still contained legacy code and had to be moved to XCode. Personally, I don't see why companies don't just develop separate programs for PPC and Intel like VLC does. All Intel software does not have to be UB (but I digress). Yes, it's fashionable to bash Redmond, but in rating this piece of software, the upgrade...5 stars. No complaints. [alert admin]

This version...BAD

Have never had trouble with this. This version caused my July 1 nightly build to crash when loading accuweather.com. There were also form boxes and check mark boxes missing when checking excite.com email. Reverting to previous version fixed everything. Wait for 1.4.2. [alert admin]

Nope

Most likely this is bad browser sniffing on the part of the sites you mention, and not a short-coming of the browser. Try this: type "about:config" without the quotes in the URL bar, then hit Enter. Click through the warning. This will bring up Firefox's hidden preferences. Type "useragent" (again, no quotes) in the search bar, then look for the following string: general.useragent.extra.firefox Right-click on it and choose Modify. Change the name Namaroka to Firefox,…

Well aren't you special. Obviously, you got lucky, but as you can see from posters at this and another Mac d/l site, there is obviously something wrong with this disk image that Telestream needs to rectify.

Appears to be dead, not suitable for regular use

If you have Unsanity's Application Enhancer, try adding Whamb to the Master Exclude list. The Whamb dev told me it could be caused by APE. Of course, Unsanity said their APE could never cause an app to crash, and tried to blame it on my USB speakers (Soundstiks), which I've had for 6 years. The instances of kernal panics on my eMac dropped, but I still do get the occasional KP when launching Whamb on…

Hideous UI

Where does the poster mention Firefox, and what does Firefox have to do with this review? GUI issues are certainly a legitimate concern, after all, isn't that one of the main appeals of the Mac experience?

Whoops Caminicon wants to keep downloading the "Camino" theme

Look inside the Caminicon folder in ~/Library/Application Support. You'll find a Camino.zip file. Uncompress the file and all should be well. This little bug should be fixed now, but was noticed right after release. http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?t=390288&start=30 then scroll down to the bottom of the page.

This version...BAD

Thanks Amake! Obviously, it wasn't fixed when I rated it. If a revision causes a crash, or doesn't do what it says it does, then it certainly doesn't deserve a 5-star rating. Hopefully my review helped Amake find the error which resulted in the fix.

Slow on Safari 2.0 with Tiger

Since upgrading to Tiger, Safari scrolling has been horribly slow. No PithHelmet, just a Kensington mouse and Apple's mouse driver.
