GlimmerBlocker 1.2 (Mac OS X)

great software

This solved an annoying issue for me. I have Saft, but if I use Saft to block animated ads, it also prevents Flash-based movies from showing. GlimmerBlocker solved this immediately and I doesn't seem to interfere with Saft or PithHelmet. This is a great piece of software. [alert admin]

tr.im.it 1.0 (Mac OS X)

seems to work as advertised

I followed the instructions and tested it out. Everything worked exactly as claimed. Yes, I could go to tinyurl.com and do the same thing but this saves several steps. Good job! [alert admin]

Print Therapy 6.0.1 LE (Mac OS X)

indispensable

I hesitated about upgrading to Leopard until Print Therapy (was called Printer Setup Repair in Tiger and Panther) was released but, with trepidation, did it anyway. I am so happy that the Leopard version is now available. I count this as a must-have utility in the same way that I count on Disk Warrior. Bravo to the Fixamac team! [alert admin]

Opera 9.5.1 (Mac OS X)

Opera 9.5.1 refuses to open

As with the other incarnations of Opera 9.5.x, 9.5.1's icon bounces interminably in the dock and I have to force quit. I reverted to Opera 9.2.1 which opens immediately. Opera 9.5.x is, for me, totally unusable. [alert admin]

Demeter 1.5b1 (Mac OS X)

1.5.b1 keeps crashing

This version persistently quits upon opening. I reverted to a previous version which appears to be stable. This is on an Intel Mac using 10.4.11. [alert admin]

Netscape X 9.0b1 (Mac OS X)

Will not import Safari bookmarks, etc.

Netscape X, which goes under the name Navigator when installed (why the difference?) offers to import Safari bookmarks, preferences, etc. when first launched. I agreed but those bookmarks are nowhere to be found. I tried it again manually by going to File>Import. This time, a Safari bookmarks folder was created but it was empty. This product accurately describes itself as a beta. [alert admin]

Bookdog 3.0b (Mac OS X)

Version 3.0 is unusable

I reverted to version 2.3.7 after version 3.0 kept crashing and I had to force-quit many times. The older version is great, however. [alert admin]

Opera 9.5.1 refuses to open

I found the reason for this. I trashed Opera preferences before updating and Opera worked fine after that.

You have real guts, Jon...

Guts or stupidity? I finally realized that the installer did work because it gave me multiple copies of AR in my Applications folder. I all except one. I rarely use AR but it comes in handy sometimes.

Hello Folks

When I attempted to update my LaCie Firewire Drive to Firmware Version 1.4.2, I got a message that the update was unnecessary because firmware was already at 1.3.8 (!) That happened with the original updater that was withdrawn. This update is useless.

The Ultimate Mac Utility

Super Duper works in Tiger. The developer has updated it and several people in the MacFixit forums report using it successfully. It is a worth alternative to CCC.

IMPORTANT - .Mac screwed up .tar.gz files

I downloaded Camino Knight 2.5 via Version Tracker and got the same -1708 error as the previous version. I tried the link that Reinhold Penner posted, and got an error message at .Mac. Finally, I used the link to Developer's Site on the VT page, downloaded CK again, installed it, and everything worked beautifully. The interface seems to be the same as Firefix, which also works wonderfully well.
