DiskTracker X 2.4b6 (Mac OS X)

When are they going to update the ancient UI?

I love this program for its simplicity and speed, have used it for years now, but when...GOD WHEN...are they going to upgrade the UI to current Mac standards? I appreciate the beta updates, for stability, but I'm really really REALLY tired of the crunchy "classic" font display and lack of icons. Even their website looks like it stopped somewhere in 1998. Hopefully there's a version 3 in the works? [alert admin]

Adobe GoLive 9.0 (Mac OS X)

Adobe has really screwed up this one...

Golive 9 is a trainwreck. For anybody who has been using the software for years (and various versions), their decisions to force CSS on every minute aspect of your website is appalling. I use CSS for many aspects of my sites, but I also want to control table sizes manually without CSS, and now I cannot. If I make any adjustments to a table I set in a previous version of Golive, it stacks CSS data on top of itself for every move, and then all hell breaks loose, the tables explode to 5000 pixels wide and worse, and trying to correct what it does only makes it worse. It's a complete nightmare. I have existing client websites that I cannot open in Golive 9 without fear of imploding, and my use of MenuMachine makes it difficult to move to Dreamweaver. Adobe needs to pull it's fat head out and remember that Golive used to be part of the "Pro" Creative Suite and that many of their customers had methodologies that predate their marketing goals of turning this software into a toy for dabblers. Adobe treats it's user base with such arrogance and contempt, pulling the rug out from under them after establishing a seeming trust, reassuring them that their investment in purchasing and learning expensive software is sound. I understand that things change and we have to adapt, but that doesn't justify their ethics. Unfortunately the users of now discontinued or downgraded (crippled) software have no alternative. Welcome to Microsoft Adobe. [alert admin]

QuarkXPress 7.0 (Mac OS X)

Just Die Already...

Quark, you lost it. Give it up. It's over. Even the diehards are crossing over to InDesign in droves. I know personally that Random House switched over their entire global operation this past year, as most publishing companies have (your singular industry holdouts.) You have lost all credibility by resting on your laurels and expecting people to dish out more for bloat and instability. Your laziness and arrogance cost you dearly. It's a tale old as time....good riddance, Quark Express. [alert admin]

iView MediaPro 3.0 (Mac OS X)

Outrageous upgrade price and STILL no sub-folder updating

First, the price to upgrade is laughable for an update that is cosmetic at best. Second, they systematically ignore their userbase, which has been clamoring for sub-folder updating over a year now - a basic and necessary function for anyone who organizes their photos into sub-folders by date, etc. iView only watches for media files being added to the main library folder, and ignores new folders and their contents - and considering many cameras/exif managers download and sort into folders, this means you have to manually add their contents every time. Ridiculous. iView has lost yet another customer. [alert admin]

FolderControl 1.60 (Mac OS X)

Good Product, Not So Great Upgrade Policy

I bought this a while back and it has been a really helpful program, but then I upgraded to Tiger which broke my version 1.4. So I downloaded the 1.6 update and now I find that I have to pay half the original price just to license it again, with no new features. Sorry, but I'm not going to pay again for a bug-fix. Guess I'm back to doing this stuff manually. [alert admin]

FrameForge 3D Studio 1.5.6 (Mac OS 9, Mac OS X)

Good Idea, Poor Implementation

The idea is great, as well as some of the toolsets, unfortunately this program suffers from painfully slow rendering and interaction - even with the models as crude as they are, moving through a set is a grating experience. The interface also needs a MAJOR overhaul, as it still looks like an OS 9 program. It could take a few control ideas from Poser, which makes maneuvering through a set much more organic. Hopefully version 2 will finally take advantage of hardware rendering, as well as improvements to the models and interface. That is, if the update ever comes, this program has been languishing for some time. [alert admin]

G-Force 3.0 (Mac OS X)

Behind the Windows version?

Didn't G-Force begin on the Mac? I'm curious to see this toolbar that is Windows only for now - as it seems to be the main reason this is getting a 3.0 bump. Unfortunately for the Mac I would call this version 2.8.2. P.S. Still love G-Force, just a little disappointed. [alert admin]

Seriously, you need to learn how to edit. Your post could have been expressed in 2 sentences. Jesus.

bug...

Ridiculous that this bug has been present since version 1.0.2 and not addressed. It's kind of embarrassing.

Behind the Windows version?

Andy, you are a gentleman and a scholar - thanks for the thoughtful reply. I can completely empathize with your situation, having starting my own small business 2 years ago. We all have to survive - and it is a Windows world, after all. The improvements on the Mac end are very nice, I must admit. Is there a possible date for the bar to be added? Don't worry, I won't hold you to it!

Real Player Files?

That would be great - perhaps we can convince this company to do the same for RealPlayer files?

Why would ANYONE do this upgrade?

Yeah, and they also give us a good idea of what they have limited. Screw that, and screw this update.

Displeased that I need to buy new hardware to benefit from latest version of Safari

I wouldn't necessarily consider them 'rushing' to improve Safari - how long since the last update? Of course its great that Safari can take advantage of the new code in Panther, but the fact that they can so quickly shrug off their users who haven't dished out the bucks for a new system hardly a couple months old is abhorrent. Apple needs some serious customer relations seminars.

Stop it Apple

Well, gee, I'm glad you have the luxury of multiple machines that you can keep various systems on. Must be great. Some people don't have this option but would still like a version of Safari that doesn't crash every time you log onto Aplus.net and others.

Displeased that I need to buy new hardware to benefit from latest version of Safari

Wow - you must be one of the Apple employees he was discussing earlier. Smug, self-righteous for all the wrong reasons. Just because you have access to a machine that can handle Panther and/or you can afford to upgrade doesn't give you the right to disparage another user who questions these outright extortionist upgrade tactics from Apple.

Not for use in Jaguar 10.2?

1. I've supported Apple for 12 years, I can complain if I like. 2. Apple has historically overcharged for its hardware - we more than deserve a price break in the software/system updates. 3. That an incremental software update (1.0 -> 1.2) can stop working between another incremental system update (10.2 -> 10.3) which we have to pay for smacks a bit of extortion, regardless of the improvements. I'm sure the new Cocoa bindings, etc. are remarkable,…
