Little Snitch 2.0 beta 8 (Mac OS X)

I agree with mmuek but I also won't pay to be a beta tester

I find it most unconscionable that so many developers are not only throwing their "beta" versions on VT for the masses, but they're also sucking us like vampires by charging for a beta. There is no reason on earth for anyone to pay to test beta software. The truth is, the developer ought to be happy that there are eager beavers out here who do like to try out and test beta software - including me. In the past many developers would give beta testers a break in the price of the the application when it graduated from "beta" to "general availability" status. Some developers have even given beta testers a free upgrade license. But no, everybody these days wants to extract as much money from us that they even charge to test their buggy software. I never thought I'd see this Microsoftian business model so pervasive in the Mac community. [alert admin]

Kolektionari 0.4 (Mac OS X)

Still needs a lot of English localizacion

Launching this app brings up a window called Coleccion. Clicking the Data tab shows: Fecha de creacion Fecha de modificacion Numero de elementos Opening the Preferences and selecting the General tab, strange word "Dinstance" I created a test file with one field - large text. Then created a new item. in the main window there are two panels - one with the collection (looks like a blue book) and the other with fields contained in the collection. The text I typed looks fine but below it there is this: {NSFont = "Helvetica 12.00 pt. P [] (0x1ad50a60) fobj=0x0037dc20, spc=3.33";} If you had a contact email or web form I'd be happy to send these outside of Version Tracker. [alert admin]

Kolektionari 0.2 (Mac OS X)

Not ready for prime time

Based on the sparse info on VT, I figured I'd give this a whirl for fun. I first went to the Dev site link on Vt and downloaded the user guide. Beware: The user guide is all in Spanish - no English translation yet. I then launched the application and was more than a little befuddled on what to do so I attempted to create a test file. The app didn't like something I did and displayed an "Aviso" (warning) window with text all in Spanish. In addition, there are parts and windows of this application that still haven't been translated from Spanish into English (i.e. "Cancelar", "Information adicional" in the window called "Preferencias"). At one point I simply gave up and tried to quit but this app wouldn't quit. I had to do a Force Quit. Note, though, that in the Force Quit dialog, Kolektionari wasn't listed as not responding so it was something else. This app may be on an interesting track but as it is currently implemented, I won't be exploring it any further. I hope that things are sorted out as I'd really like to try out a working copy. Finally, the developer's web site is a single page with no contact info. If there was a way to contact him, I'd be happy to engage in a dialog to help pinpoint problems. [alert admin]

Netscape X 9.0b2 (Mac OS X)

Does RSS feeds! Wonderful update!

Whereas Camino doesn't recognize RSS feeds (just displays the html code), Safari has done this for years, and now Netscape joins the 21st century as well. As a person who adds in RSS publishing to web sites I have found it hard to instruct the average Joe how to subscribe when their browser doesn't know what a feed is. Way to go Netscape! A big worthy release! [alert admin]

Brother Scanner Driver 3.0.2 (Mac OS X)

Where is this great download?

I have a 7820N and would like to upgrade it. clicking on the link here in VT takes me to a Brother page that describes the tiger release but there's no "catch-all" download to be seen. There's an extensive list of Brother devices, most of which hve a 'Download" link to the far right. Clicking on this takes you to a page with older drivers, utilities, etc. I still haven't found this "universal" updater. Could some kind person paste in the URL for the combo updater? Please? Thanks so much! [alert admin]

Why Drag Thing is Better... for Me

With all the extras you employ with your computer, I'd imagine that the photo here captures the essence of your work area nicely :-) http://images.jakeludington.com/random/pctoilet.jpg And please remember, this is a joke, not a flame! Your comments were quite good.
