TextWrangler 3.0 (Mac OS X)
It's not only coders that can get benefit from TextWrangler. As a Journalist I use it for all my writing. It's fast to open, easy to navigate and all that formatting nonsense doesn't get in the way of the free flow of ideas. Thanks to Bare Bones for making it available. [alert admin]

Lotto Sorcerer X 6.27 (Mac OS X)
This software should be removed.
It doesn't help Version Tracker's reputation that this electronic snake oil is still being promoted. The claims made for this software are provenly false and the breathless reports of riches won by posters here are obviously spam sent out by the charlatans who produce this crap. The sad fact is that as they keep releasing new versions of this it means that there are many gullible people shelling out hard earned money, (or their welfare cheques) to purchase this nonsense. Celtx 1.0 (Mac OS X)
I've used a few previous versions of Celtx and although far from perfect they have all been pretty stable and impressive for a freeware project. Just updated to Version 2.0 and nothing works. Can't open previous projects, can't open templates, can't create new projects. Project window opens blank and then just sits there doing nothing. Menus dont work and I have to force quit. If you're thinking of upgrading from V1 Don't. [alert admin]

Best Torrent Client I've used but it badly needs an update and looking at the website I fear the developers may not be supporting the product anymore. I'm using on Tiger but a friend has had bad experiences with leopard. [alert admin]

AppTrap 1.0.3 (Mac OS X)
Beware, This app trashed not only files rendered useless by the removal of their associated applications but also trashed almost all my other preferences as well. I had to reinstall FCP, OuickTime Pro, rebuild my iTunes list as well as iPhoto, Address Book and Mail. There was no simple way to put everything back from the Trash so it was a backup from late last year. [alert admin]

Skype 1.4.0.35 (Mac OS X)
Sadly Skype is so close to being a really great piece of software but on the Mac with the latest System it's just too damn buggy. The app crashes everytime I answer an incoming call and Skype say they know about the problem but for over six weeks nothing seems to be being done about it. When I looked at my support ticket it said no further action had been taken because the problem was solved. Well no it hasn't. Sound quality on Skypeout is pretty bad and there is still no video support for Mac. I'd say install it but if you have 10.4.4 or better then be prepared for annoying problems. [alert admin]

The latest upgrades seems to have cured all my problems and the programme is now stable again. Thanks to the programming team it's now back to being a great freeware programme and great for students and no budget film and video makers like me.

I think it may be a QT thing. MyVCR has worked well for me for a long time now but recently after a couple of QT updates it does pretty much what you said. Vision & Audio come up in the monitor window, and a file is recorded which Get Info says is a .mov file but when I try to play it I get the not a movie file error. Tried in VLC and Streamclip…

I have used the small app "MyVCR" for several years now and when all else fails it always works.
