QuarkXPress 6.1 (Windows NT, Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows ME, Windows XP, Windows 2000)

InDesign CS Recommendation

If you follow the Mac News sites, you understand that Quark is a costly update (3.3r users regretted 4.0. until 4.11..then 5.0 caused numerous incompatibilities..then 5.01 updater wasted hours of troubleshooting --- "solution was to move your folder to desktop THEN update!" Who wrote that installer, should be shot...now Quark 6 doesn't save down to 4.x version, many XTensions need to be updated...) A small, but known issue is if you run the update, you need the 6.0 CD. Then you must re-activate the updated version or run in demo mode. If you have both a workstation and portable, and you are permitted to install one version on both, installing the update will require calling Quark Support and getting new activation keys. Try this on a Friday night or Saturday afternoon, when your G5 powersupply blows chow and you need your laptop. Hold time was incredible...and what time is it in India? Lesson: I'd think long and hard before updating and wait till confirmation that the updater DOES fix the program...or stick with 4.11 or 5.01 in Classic. [alert admin]

Font Reserve 3.1.3 (Mac OS 9, Mac OS X)

What is Extensis up to?

There are other choices than Font Reserve: Font Agent Pro 2 and Suitcase X11. Fontbook is for casual user, not designer or other that has more than 5 fonts. Extensis bought up Font Reserve and is either revamping it (hardly), sitting on it (to convert you to Suitcase...possibly) or integrating its better features into Suitcase Pro X12 (likely). I would not be surprised if Extensis bought up FontAgent Pro next. And thanks to Adobe for not supporting ATM Deluxe. Guess that goes back to the Display Postscript battle with Apple. So now we have quartz... Oh, BTW: if you like Font Reserve...good for you. If you like Suitcase, the same. its a tool. It does something better than the other. But if it fails to meet its duty, by all means, tell everyone. But don't whine about it. instead, point out the flaws and don't pay another dime till its fixed. Oh, it can't be as bad as Font juggler was... :P [alert admin]

Well, My friend's…

PC notified him once on SMART. It was when the drive could not boot and that he needed to replace it. I hope this is just an application and not something driver-level encoded like FWB of old. Hence the F____WhiteBoy initials...yes, that dates me as old, dosn't that! [alert admin]

There is upgrade…

pricing and rebate (good till 12/31/03) info on the Apple page. Funny, about that Enron stuff there Gryphon2. I bet Enron never even considered using Quickbooks..it is PIA to delete a client that stiffs you...I tried. I switched to QBPro 2002 for PC. It sucks but it does what i need... As for Version Tracker...I doubt they are changing marketing and are informing us that its a Pre-Order item. I think thats quite nice of VT to provide that rather than a dead link. [alert admin]

If it wasn't broken ...

I am glad I am not the only one disappointed by this update. Seems that Creativebe "acquired" Main Menu from santasw.com. Their "about" page mentions they are in the market to acquire mac applications. I am disappointed in Santasw. Not so much as selling out (congratulations! You sold your product!) but in that I had donated money for how much I liked/used it, then this. Gone. No notice. And to top it off, re-made into $20…
