VisualHub 1.28 (Mac OS X)

Paid my fee, no response from developer for over a week about my serial number/unlock

How long do I have to wait, or is there something in my Kagi receipt that I have to enter? [alert admin]

iSquint 0.7 (Mac OS X)

Works smoothly and effortlessly

After posting earlier that I wasn't able to get it to work, the developer, Tyler, posted a quick update to version .7 and it works for me now. Amazing support, I would say. The program quickly converted (that's relative to Quicktime I mean, converting video files is rarely truly 'quick' yet) several videos I had wanted to try, and it's very easy to use. Not hyped up as much is that this app also can create Sony PSP compatible files. I know, I know, there are apps that do that already, but it's a nice plus. The only improvement I would suggest at this point would be how it shows the path/hireachy in the 'Saving As:' field - it seems that there's not really enough space allocated in the window to show the full path. ISquint shows the full path of Hard Drive:User:Desktop:(filename), and that didn't all fit, even with my average-length user and hard drive names. Not really a big deal, but I couldn't read what the file name was going to be. The simple and totally acceptable workaround is to specify the file name yourself using the 'change' button. Put up a PayPal donation link, I'll throw some loot down. I'd love to see this app become the de facto standard for quickly putting videos on your iPod. Thanks again! [alert admin]

iSquint 0.7 (Mac OS X)

Looks very useful!

...But I'm not getting it to work. Probably me. I glanced over the 'read me's' but I keep getting something about 'can't make "" into type number (or something) -1700' Any thoughts on this? [alert admin]

Xbox Live Friends 2.1.1 (Mac OS X)

Seems to be broken since the LIVE update on Oct. 24th

Great program/widget, but is it only me when I say it's been rendered useless by the recent October '05 LIVE upgrade preparing for the 360? All I get now is a little vertical column on the names list saying "Failed" Hoping for an update soon, I miss the widget! [alert admin]

Working well

It's so transparent, Apple should have done this themselves. Good job! [alert admin]

xWing 0.7 (Mac OS X)

Awesome

This widget is great. It reminds me of these old three-fold cards you could get when I was very young, with dry-rub down transfers of Planet of the Apes or something to make your own scene. http://cargobay.starwars.com/webapps/cargobay/item-detail/10393/10338 But this is more like the vinyl colorforms, as you can re-use them! I would say the only improvement I can think of is (if it's possible) to give the vehicles an adjustable scale, so you can set up more elaborate squadrons with dimension and depth! But I realize that many of these vehicles are likely captured from the DVDs and therefore the scale is probably getting about as large as it can get. The ability to vary the scale from 50%-100% of what you have here would allow soooo much variety. Also, maybe some of the droids? Yoda's hut? The lightsaber-training orb, for instance. Is it possible to make a widget hover and move, then fire a random bolt you need to click near to block, or your e-mail gets deleted, one unread message at a time? [alert admin]

Audio Hijack Pro 2.5 (Mac OS X)

Great App - not grabbing in Tiger?

Tiger, HijackPro 2.5: Not able to grab audio from Safari playing a Quicktime trailer... Example: Won't detect audio on the Star Wars Ep3 trailers on starwars.com, hears the start-up web audio, but I can't capture the audio once the trailer pop-up window appears and starts... Is Apple limiting the capabilities of this great program, or is it me? Other than this minor problem, I use this program several times a week and have for the last 2 years. Amazing tool for musicians and audio people, as well as someone who simply wants to record an internet stream or protected file. [alert admin]

Stattoo 1.1 (Mac OS X)

Stopped updating in Tiger 10.4

The 'e-mail' and 'calender' capsules seem to have stopped working with the new OS X Tiger versions of Mail and iCal, but maybe I'm missing something... [alert admin]

Avid Free DV 1.6.1 (Mac OS X)

Editing forum?

So this is the new FCP vs. Avid battleground? I use Final Cut, I don't consider myself a professional editor but I do direct videos and ads for major record labels (Capitol, Atlantic, etc.) so I am a 'pro' using Final Cut when I have to edit my own stuff... I think it's important to point out the exception to your 'pro' rule, eridley: Walter Murch now uses Final Cut Pro. Used it on 'Cold Mountain.' Although you know who uses it, it's fair to let others know who you're referring to - the chief editor of The Godfather, The Conversation, Apocalypse Now, The English Patient... I know many editors, the ones that work at houses use an Avid, it is the pro's choice. No doubt. If I'm not editing, I would rather have a good editor on the system they're comfortable with. But this AVID FREE is veering head-on into a growing market that has left the Avid behind: Smaller projects that edit online, like DV and video-based reality shows. This is not the program of choice for that market. Nearly every show you see on MTV or VH1 is being cut on FCP (I have some friends that work on shows like 'Making Tha Band," etc.). It's just more cost-effective. I would recommend this to anyone who wants to learn the Avid interface, as once you learn with this, you can step up to a hardware-based Avid and in a few minutes be operating. I also know a few editors who are doing the smart thing: They have learned both Avid & Final Cut. I like the Avid, but I know that many houses are able to put in 2-3 extremely professional online FCPro systems for the price of an Avid. So, like it or not, post-production houses are adding FCPro systems to their arsenal. The annoying thing about this argument is that you & others that get so mad about FCPro seem to have forgotten that good editing did not begin in 1992 with the introduction of the Avid. The Avid is the choice of professionals today because it has been the standard tool for a decade. But don't get mad if the tools start to change - it's 'editing' itself that has to happen; Avid is not the artform. [alert admin]

Don't bother if you're running OSX 10.5

Truth is, I'm not sure it does run solidly under Leopard. I love this utility, I've owned it for years now, loathed when it isn't on a machine I'm using, and pushed it on many people who can't understand why I'm so enthusiastic about it, but many of those same people aren't old enough to remember utilities like 'Boomerang' (which handled back in the day what 'Default Folder' does now). It's always been solid and the…

Re: Paid my fee... Contacted by dev, smooth sailing

Prompt, friendly reply from dev, speculating that my serial number e-mail might have gotten lost in the spam shuffle somewhere - serial number was sent again and all is well. I love these smaller developers that still have some time for personal interaction with their clientele; thanks again, helpful folks at Techspansion!

Looks very useful!

I don't really think what I typed will be considered whining by anyone THAT MATTERS. It's a legit post. Maybe there's a quick solution that someone here can inform me about. Obviously not you, I see. I didn't type that without trying several different paths - quitting all 'quicktime' related apps, restarting, etc. I was quite positive about the program's ease of use and potential, and said nothing negative. It simply won't work on my system…

Couldn't Load Passport Page

I had troubles getting this to work until I went back to the passport webpage, logged-in and checked the 'remember this computer' or whatever to make it so you don't need to log-in every time - this program seems to use the cookies or whatever to log-in so you don't have to type anything - but you have to let the web site set it up, the XBox Live Friends program can't seem to do…
