Mozilla Firefox 3.5.3 (Mac OS X)
Why are plugins no longer supported? NoFlash isn't the only one, but it's the one I really care about--Firefox no longer automatically notifies you or allows you to update them from the Tools>Add-Ons window. So I manually downloaded the current versions and installed them. Firefox merely adds a message saying "this add-on will be updated when Firefox is restarted". But it doesn't, no matter how many times I've tried. The plugin simply isn't available anymore in Firefox. Nor are ANY of the ones I use--you click on the preferences button for each of them, and nothing happens. NONE of my plugins work anymore--their icons have just disappeared. Most unhappy about that. If Mozilla believes Firefox is so good now that plugins are no longer needed (unlikely), they offered zero information regarding such before prompting you to download their update. [alert admin]

Monolingual 1.4.0 (Mac OS X)
So glad the developer released a version that's compatible with Snow Leopard. I've used it for almost 3 years; I run it after I download a few big software updates. I've personally never had any problems running it in Tiger, Leopard, or even Snow Leopard. I often do clean-up utilities one after the other--checking for permissions problems is my last step. And I have not had permissions problems from running this app. Only APPLE updates have ever given me that problem. [alert admin]

AddPDF 1.0.2 (Mac OS X)
TRIED to buy it, without success
I used this a few times and liked it, so when the temp license expired, I paid the "donation" and waited for the license. After 4 days, I emailed the developer (not other way to contact them) hoping to remind them to send my license. That was 3 days ago, and nothing. Most disappointing--even if that person's away, you'd think someone else would be around to take care of business! [alert admin]

Apple iTunes 8.2 (Mac OS X)
Never had a problem with updates to OSX, just with iTunes. Running latest version of Leopard on Intel processor. After installing, now my computer refuses to go to sleep, and half my widgets no longer work, even Apple widgets. Tried repairing permissions, rebooting, and deleting affected widgets. When I tried reinstalling them, the "manage widgets" panel is now stuck in my Dashboard and refuses to budge! Two updates before this one, when I opened iTunes, I lost all my preferences and my playlists. Dammit! [alert admin]

Cloak 1.1 (Mac OS X)
This is a very simple app for those of us not needing hard-core encryption of files, just a way to keep them from the view of others who use the computer. Great way to hide financial and personal data from occasional guest users, but it's not hard to figure out how to find the files for an experienced user. [alert admin]

Speed Download 5.1.3 (Mac OS X)
I still use v3 (no way was I paying again for v4 for an app I'd used less than a year), and I like it a lot, but I really need something more current. I'd consider upgrading to the Lite version of v5, as all I need is the ability to resume downloads on my constantly interrupted connection. But good heavens, the "lite" version costs almost the same as the full version--who the heck would pay for that?! If the Lite version were, say, $12.95, that might be worth it. Otherwise I'll look elsewhere. [alert admin]

Flip4Mac Drive-in 1.0.3.1 (Mac OS X)
Beware of updating if you already own this
I've used this for a while and like it, but I'm disturbed by the new owner's dirty tricks. First it was requiring the creation of a user account on their website to get updates. That didn't seem to last very long. But today, I opened the app, got an alert that there was an update, downloaded it, then was required to re-enter my registration. I was tricked into downloading a "beta" version that required me to buy it again! DO NOT UPDATE IF YOU ALREADY OWN THIS! I will never purchase anything from this company again. [alert admin]

Camino 1.6.7 (Mac OS X)
I've used Camino for years because it still loads faster than Firefox or Safari, even Beta 4. It's clean and simple, and while I wish it had more of the extensions Firefox has, it's still my main browser. [alert admin]

Flip4Mac Drive-in 1.0.1.1 (Mac OS X)
...the new updates on not on VT--the developer now requires even licensed users to create an account to get updates. Very bad idea, and I won't play. I actually like this app, it does exactly what I want it to do, but cut the corporate crap. When I upgrade my OS, I'll be switching to another app. [alert admin]

This is one of the very first widgets I ever downloaded, and I use it constantly. I occasionally get a frozen frame, or the prefs get somehow lost, but this is not a complicated app to figure out. For a free one, I get amazing use out of it. Thanks very much to the developer. [alert admin]

I've had that problem a lot with Snow Leopard, even from an admin account. I just usually delete the older version first, then I can install the new one, so try that.

Looks like the developer's website is dead. Hope you're right--I'd hate to lose this because I upgraded to SL.

Yes, I have the same problem. In fact, I downloaded songs from the iTunes store since I installed it--the cover art initially downloaded with the songs, then disappeared. Oddly, artwork for a PODCAST I downloaded at the same time is still there--it's just music art that vanishes. Post a fix if you figure it out.

I used this app recently for the first time, and it may be a coincidence, but I lost the ability to print, too. I reinstalled the printer drivers more than once, but I couldn't get the printer to communicate until I reinstalled OSX. Actally, I like what OnyX does, but I'm leery about using it again.
