TiVo Broadcaster 1.0 (Mac OS X)
How to make it run in the background
In your system preferences, select the application to start up on login in the "Users" preference pane. Now everytime you log in, the app will open. When the app starts up everytime, a status window will appear to tell you the app successfully launched. Because of the way I wrote the app, there will be no dock icon and it will not show up in your "Force Quit" items. THe only way to quit the app is to logout or to Kill Process using Activity Viewer. Once the status window comes up, you can click on it and press CMD+H to hide the window. It is now effectively "running in the background". I don't know how much more "in the background" I can make it. I like having the status window initially come up because if the script isn't working you wouldn't be able to troubleshoot it. Brossow is right. By the time I realized the MPKG creator messed up (I'll never admit a user error), it was too late this morning. I'll fix it tonight when I get home and post on here. It's not malware. The installers work fine, for some reason the MPKG creator didn't pickup the individual installers for the scripts. Expect something by 7 PM Pacific Time tonight. -iDriveX Oh and there is no product page cause I'm not a real developer. Just trying to help out a small cross-section of the mac community. First off, let me apologize for the incorrect nomenclature for the labeling of the machine. Secondly, let me assure everyone that this doesn't void warranty. You can backup these files or simply re-run the 10.3.2 updater if you want, either way will get the desired effect. Thirdly, there's no reason for giving it 1 star for ease of use (you double click a file and restart your machine) and 1 star for price (it's free), and 1 star for support (you haven't e-mailed me for any support). If you don't like it or don't need it, don't use it. I am offering an option, for those that want to take it. Is it a hack? Yes. Does installing any other software hack void your warranty? No. Was it a bad idea to install this? Who knows. But it offers the solution of a silent computer. If you want it, use it, if not then don't. [alert admin]

Not Spyware, Automates Process
This is the first application I have ever created. I have no idea what idrivex.no-ip.org is and I have no idea why your computer is trying to connect to it. It was created with Apple's PackageMaker from the recently updated XCode. All it does is automate the process of installing and overwriting two extensions in the System/Library/Extensions folder. You could manually install the files if you wanted. [alert admin]

The Product does not contain any spyware. It is a simple installer program. Unless Apple's "PackageMaker" automatically bundles spyware, it does not have spyware. [alert admin]

I will be checking the reviews on this often. Hopefully it will work for you. I will make adjustments to the files and installer as necessary. There should be no problems with the install. If you encounter an error message stating that "Extensions were not properly installed" upon restart, run repair permissions, and restart again. If you encounter further difficulties, please post them here. Positive feedback is also appreciated. [alert admin]

Sounds like you did everything correct, but do this at this point, restart the TiVo, restart your computer, and restart the TiVo Broadcaster app and see if that works.

there could be any number of problems with that and you'll have to troubleshoot it. Here are some things to think about. 1. I have had problems in the past when using more than one router and using Apple's Wireless Distribution System. The TiVo was going through one router and TiVo desktop was going through the other. Technically they are on the same subnet and should see each other, but more times than not they couldn't. 2.…

Absolutely, you can only use "TiVo Broadcaster" on one machine at a time in your subnet. What it is doing is it is broadcasting (rudimentarily) through Bonjour. BUT It's naming itself in Bonjour and broadcasting that name. If you try and run it on a second machine, you should get a Bonjour error message stating the name is already in use or being broadcasted. Hope that helps!
