MP3 ID3X 3.0.3 (Mac OS 9, Mac OS X)

do not use on latest Mac OS X (Tiger & LEO)

When I found the "mp3 info CCM" plug-in, they mentioned MP3 ID3X.
So I came here to VT and informed myself.

After downloading, I checked the stuff that came inside the compressed .sit folder.
The Application itself and the scripts are really old legacy stuff.

Do not use it on Audio stuff from iTunes 7.
You may risk your Audio-files to loose information stored inside. [alert admin]

Perian 1.0 (Mac OS X)

Da ist was faul ...

[alert admin]

Midnight Inbox 1.2 (Mac OS X)

Coders and Designers unite

A year ago I did some extensive GTD Software testing but found nothing satisfied. So I was very pleased to see that Inbox beta had gone live. I really like it. The Design, the workflow, the idea behind it.

After 2 days of heavy testing Inbox, I am very mad. Performance and the stability of Inbox is horrible
And no, it is not my System! ... as I was in doubt, I did a new System installation (install and archive).

need an example?
When I want to change the active context in "Work" menu, it is not possible to chose one that is in a folder, if that folder is not open. >>> nothing happens
it does not change! only when that context folder is open, active context does change.

this is just one of those bugs, where I do an action (such as delete an item) and nothing happens. ......... or strange things happen (iCal syncing)
I can imagine that source code. awful. all those SQL statements..... how does it come that when I close the app, my view settings wount be stored? I have to hit Command -s all the time.

why on Earth is it not possible to make great software that is nevertheless stable and reasonable fast?
(nice GUI, efficient, intuitive, Mac OS X Core tech)

Do your home work and join forces with some world class coders. Inbox is really great, but it needs serious debugging.
maybee Mr. "Midnight Beep Softworks" needs a financial funding to attract a database pro and good coders ;o) [alert admin]

MPlayer 2.0b8r5 (Mac OS X)

VLC media Player for Mac OS X 10.3.9 (Panther)

1. check your Mac OS X Version!

2a. Do you have Panther (10.3.x) ???

2b. or Tiger (10.4.x) ????

3a. for Panther you'd better go with VLC media Player

    http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/14738

3b. for Tiger (10.4.8) try the official (Linux) MPlayer ported to Mac OS X

Mozilla Firefox 2.0 (Mac OS X)

damn slow version 2.0

on my iBook G4 the latest Firefox version was really fast. But v.2.0 is so slow, that it is a real pain. I use Firefox to open a lot of links in different tabs. Now I downgraded Firefox to version 1.5.0.7 and cleared the cache ( ~/Library/Caches ) It works so far. It just miss the new search experience from version 2.0 and the expanded tab scrolling function (nice feature). [alert admin]

Legacy Software - not Mac OS X compatible

A friend recommended me "Contact Keeper" from Koingo Software Products. Then I found this product and thought I'll test it out as a Sys-admin (Mac OS X). I saw the review from "Kugo" and was quite a bit shocked. OK?!? It is an carbon app (legacy technology) and not an cocoa piece of Software. so what? let's test it.... I am really disappointed! This has nothing to to with Mac OS X at all! IT IS ONLY FOR USERES THAT WORK WITH legacy Mac OS (8 or 9) or CLASSIC (under Mac OS X). DONT USE IT UNDER Mac OS X (Panther & Tiger) - You may harm your files! (Mac OS X is based on UNIX - this software is not!) [alert admin]

StickyBrain 4.0.6 (Mac OS X)

Legacy installation with admin password request

Sorry, but why do some apps come with simple installation (drag and drop in main or user Applications folder) and some with those crappie old style installers (worse if it asks for root permissions!) Go back and do your homework! read Mac OS X guidelines and inform yourself in the open-source community. BTW even real Pro Software (as DEVONthink, DEVONagent, OPERA) or well known Apps like Firefox can be installed by drag and drop. And if the crappie installer from Adobe/Macromedia for Flashplayer can install without asking for root permissions - then i just don't get the point why your Application can't do likewise. And for this reason I'm not going to test your app - no chance! [alert admin]

What's Next? 3.0 (Mac OS X)

Way to expensive

As I am for a search for a intuitive to to list software (means drag and drop), I am testing severall apps. This one has a new version 3.0.1 (go to dev's Page) and the price is wrong both here and on the site. When you click buy on the www.amazonconsultants.co.uk/whatsnext homepage you get the real prices: £ 29 GBP $ 48 USD € 42.05 EUR As it is shareware you can test it, but its useless as you can only have 10 tasks and only ad 2 categories. For an application which is so expensive i expect rather more usability: e.g.: Categories is the top level item and then later it is status category... means you set a task to "home stuff" and then when you have completed you tick that task and it becomes "completed" in the categories. When you delete it, it changes the category to deleted. So first it is top level category then it is status and the original category is lost. FAZIT: unbrauchbar / WucherPreis [alert admin]

Alternatives to Midnight Inbox

Hi
Well, I am testing OmniFocus (still Alpha)
and work with iGTD
http://bargiel.home.pl/iGTD/index.html

but it has a bug that makes me crazy when I forget to save.
(When It comes to a crash, it loses the data you typed in, since the last save)

So. I'll test Inbox again.
because it is the only real GTD Software for Mac out there (=workflow compliant GUI).
(iGTD does not comply with GTD a 100%
The Inbox is in the Context view, not in the Project view)

Definitely Beta

I hope you know the function of a BETA version? If it was Bug free then it would be no Beta... ;-) So please dont rate it with 1 star - since it lowers the whole Rating. Thx for your report all the same.

boxy interface???

maybe cause some of us dont steer the whole day on the screen to enjoy the nice iTunes 4 GUI.... we want to have managed our GB's of Music, Podcast & VideoCast in an well ordered manner... even on a iBook screen!!! (because my 21'' Monitor is to heavy to carry with me ;-) ---> i just dont like scrolling horizontal and so I prefer the new GUI with the slicker skin.

think, then complain...

even more simple. Any new podcast has marked the option "Skip when shuffling" by default (+i) .... so if you download Music Podcasts just change the "Genre" to whatever you like and it shows up in both sections: as a Podcast and as Music.

Well you have to pull your playlists towards empty space in the source column. I had no problems moving them around (in & out a folder) - easy as drag n' drop - Apple like ;-)

justify a major release

Well I had 2 weeks time on holiday to discover the new features in iTunes 5. First I thought (like many of you) the new GUI is the most ugly I have seen till today (still a Panther user) but then I saw that on my tiny iBook G4 14'' screen I could see much more info... and now I got used to new style and I like it. And the new search bar just rocks! and…

Troll ???

I use Safari several hours a week and normally have none of your problems. Let's say I am more than 20 hours online a week and I absolutely prefer Safari as a browser - for the ease of use and the quick possibility to manually turn of Plug-ins such as "Flash Ad-ons" or even sometimes PDF-Reader. Or all other Preferences in Safari. If I want to browse without deleting all my Safari cookies then I just take…
