Free YouTube Downloader 1.7 (Mac OS 9, Mac OS X)

KeepVid.com - it's all you need

I've been downloading videos from YouTube for a couple of years using a link in my menu bar that I got from KeepVid.com. Whenever I see a video on YouTube that I want to save, I click the "Keep It!" link in my menu bar and voila! Videos can even be downloaded now in hi-res MP4 format. And several can be downloaded simultaneously. Don't need anything else. [alert admin]

Apple Front Row 1.3.1 (Mac OS X)

Front Row no longer works

I just installed Front Row 1.3.1 and now it doesn't work anymore. I checked the battery in the remote and it's 3v, so no trouble there. I have a G5 iMac, iSight, OS 10.4.10, and Front Row has always worked before. Anyone else run into this problem? Would reinstalling the 10.4.10 Combo updater revert back to the previous version of Front Row? Inquiring minds and all that... [alert admin]

VisualHub 1.26 (Mac OS X)

Beware of quotes (") in file names

I love VisualHub and use it several times a day to convert .flv files I download from YouTube to .dv. One thing I discovered recently, though, is that if the name of the file you wish to convert contains double quote marks ("), VisualHub seems to start -- says it has started on file 1 -- but it'll sit there forever and do nothing. Remove the quotes and voila, it takes off like a champ and completes the conversion. [alert admin]

Apple Security Update 2006-003 (Mac OS X)

Google Maps broken in Safari

Security Update 2006-003 broke the screen display of Google Maps in Safari: the red location-marker and the box surrounding the text are missing as are part of the map navigation controls. This problem does not occur in Firefox or Camino. [alert admin]

Mah Jong Solitaire 2 V2.17 (Mac OS X)

Continuous screen redrawing

Mah Jong Solitaire 2 v.1.1.7 (also v.1.1.6, it seems) appears to have an issue with OS X 10.4.3 in that it continuously redraws the screen and doesn't begin the game. It uses so much CPU time that it is difficult to quit out of the game. Too bad, the game has a nice layout; however, if you can't play the game, what good is it? I'm going back to playing the original Mah Jong Solitaire game, which still works fine under 10.4.3. If I'm doing some wrong that's making the game act that way, would someone please clue me in. iAAPL 1.7.1 (Mac OS X)

iAAPL broken under Tiger

Version 1.7.1 worked fine under Panther, but does not display properly under Tiger and occasionally causes an error. Hope the developer is working on an update to this useful app. [alert admin]

iClip 3.4b1 (Mac OS X)

Excellent Utility!!!

After having used CopyPaste under Mac OS 9 for many years, I just discovered iClip. I paid the registration fee immediately upon seeing how it works and have not looked back. iClip is one of the most intuitive pieces of software I've seen for Mac OS X and does everything one would expect of a utility that saves clipboards, and more, much more. Plus, you can see the contents of each "storage tank" right there on your desktop so there's no mistaking which clipboard data you're using. It works either by using drag'n'drop or clicking the in-out arrows in the iClip dock. Wonderful! Highly recommended and worth every penny of the low shareware fee! [alert admin]

Poor flexibility with iCal integration

I have been using The Print Shop for many years and it meets all my needs. Of course, I never expected it to be a Quark Express or InDesign, but for designing and printing greeting cards, envelopes, posters, etc, it does an excellent job. I don't use it to create calendars, so its lack of integration with iCal doesn't particularly bother me, although I can understand your concern. But that's just one aspect of what…

Microsoft Office 2008 update 12.1.9 does not install

Was able to successfully update version 12.1.5 to 12.1.9 on an iMac G5. This was unexpected because previous updates to Office 2004 and 2008 required the most recent versions of each Office suite. I'm guessing that Microsoft, emulating Apple, is now releasing "Combo" updaters for its Office products.

Wish Roxio would fix their Download site to support Safari

I just downloaded Toast 8.0.4 from Roxio.com using Safari 3.0.4, so that's not the problem. However, many users have experienced problems with Safari 3.1. If that's the version of Safari you're using, it might help to downgrade to Safari 3.0.4. If that doesn't work, perhaps you should check with your ISP.

8.0.3 + Leopard = Coaster Maker

Is this just happening under Leopard or are you having problems under Tiger, too? I haven't yet upgraded to Leopard and want to know whether 8.0.3 will work OK under 10.4.10 (or 10.4.11).
