Garmin WebUpdater 2.0.0.2 Beta (Mac OS X)
Had to delete earlier version to upgrade
Just a note for those who already have v. 2.0.0.1 : I had to delete the older version before the new one would install, although it gave me no error msg. If this works as well as the earlier version, I'll be very pleased. Garmin has done a lot better than expected with their Mac version. Updated my Nuvi 350 flawlessly. [alert admin]

GlowWorm FW Lite 1.5.2 (Mac OS X)
Installation failed on Core 2 Duo iMac, with 'Application may be damaged or incomplete' error. Nothing put into the Application Support dir, but kext & daemon installed. No way I can see to contact author on his website? Unclear as to which is 'Lite' version. Needs more work before such an important utility can be trusted. Hope to see it shining brightly in the future. [alert admin]

iGlasses 1.4 (Mac OS X)
I would like to try iGlasses, but the installer just puts a zero-byte file for the program, on my 2.16 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo iMac. I tried downloading it from the developer's site, with the same results. Hope they can get this resolved. [alert admin]

VueScan 8.3.71 (Mac OS X)
Darn, I can't get it to work on my new Core 2 Duo iMac. Anybody else have any luck with the Intel machines? This app seriously needs to go Universal, even if it's a new purchase (sorry, guys) [alert admin]

Adobe DNG Converter & Camera Raw 3.5 (Mac OS X)
Plugin Crashes Photoshop Elements 3
The standalone app seems to work OK, although I don't see any advantages over v.3.4. The v3.5 plugin crashes Photoshop Elements 3 on my G4 iMac though. I think we may have passed the software sweet spot here. [alert admin]

nView 1.0.2 (Mac OS X)
If you want a quick peek at flat delimited files, this works pretty well. The ability to change encoding on the fly is handy. It even handled a big, ugly survey file I threw at it. I know it's just a little utility, but an interesting direction for it to go might be increased ability to view and correct corrupt flat files, since that's usually why you want to look at a file--there are extra/missing commas, quotes, CR, etc. Definitely worth looking at if you analyse data and need to get under the hood sometimes. XTabulator 1.0 (Mac OS X)
When I import a csv flat file, e.g. the FARS.CSV automobile accident data, XTabulator switches the rows and columns (fields and records). Is it me, or does the developer not understand text data file format? Delimitors are not field separators, but record separators. EOL delimitors separate fields. The usual point of reading csv files is to check for and correct data corruption, so this app needs more ability to drag and drop, insert record, delete extra separator and have the file reformat, etc. Still a long way to go, but worth pursuing. Support for ISO and Triple-S standards for data files would make this more useful. [alert admin]

Temperox 1.0b3 (Mac OS X)
Did they get the right sensors?
Was comparing the readings from Temperox with those of Temperature Monitor, and noticed that the readings for the graphics processor and the power supply seem to be switched. Who's right? [alert admin]

forty-two 1.6.2 (Mac OS X)
I've watched this app for awhile, hoping it would mature, and just gave it a serious try again. It does have the problems mentioned by other reviewers (won't accept a video_ts folder), despite condescending remarks by shills who tell us to look for imaginary spaces in file paths. Been at this long enough to know crap when I see it. No more time to waste. Obviously developers want to sell their shareware versions, but the freeware version doesn't inspire confidence.
