RsyncX 2.1 (Mac OS X)
I really liked the functionality (and performance) of RsyncX, but it sure takes some getting used to, especially if you're not a Unix expert. Let me add a couple of troubleshooting tips. I found the following script to work nicely to copy (and then update) my IPhoto library from my laptop to a machine on the local network. I hardwired my IP address due to some local network issues. time rsync -a -c -z -e ssh "Pictures/iPhoto Library/" John@192.168.0.7:Pictures/iPhoto\ Library/ --eahfs --showtogo Two errors to be aware of: First, you have to enable remote user logins (with all the security issues thereof) on the target machine (in Preferences sharing. Try just typing in "ssh john@192.168.0.7" into terminal to make sure you can get through, then fix the script accordiingly. Second, you have to make sure the HFS version of rsync is running on both machines. OS/X ships with the non-HFS version (don't ask me why) in /usr/bin, and RsyncX installs the HFS version in your /usr/local/bin directory. Depending on the $Path variable, it may pick up either one. If you get the wrong version on either machine, you may get --eahfs not recognized or --showtogo not recognized. If you get this, you'll have to fix your path or copy the HfS version from /usr/local/bin to /usr/bin. [alert admin]

VersionTracker Pro 4.2 (Mac OS X)
I downloaded the new version, deleted my old watchlist and reran the scan. 6 minutes to check hard disk and validate against the VT database. Surprisingly, found a couple of apps that were out of date that old one didn't. [alert admin]

Groupcal 2.0 (Mac OS X)
Just a warning that Snerdware support has pulled a disappearing act. There have been no responses to forum entries in over a month, and apparently no private email responses either. Very odd, given the great support they had up to that time. It's a wonderful piece of software, but check for the re-emergence of support prior to purchase. [alert admin]

AvantGo Connect/Conduit 4.0 (Mac OS 9)
3.3, it wiped out my device list, and I could no longer use the system. Upon asking for help, they responded with the following: We have received notice that some of our MAC users are having difficulties with the installation of AvantGo for Mac 4.0. We are currently working to provide a permanent solution to the problem. You may uninstall and remove all current AvantGo files from your desktop and restart the computer before downloading the earlier client. It is available temporarily here: http://downloads.avantgo.com/downloads/unsupported/3.3/AvantGo_Connect_Installer.hqx [alert admin]
