Tried to scan in three different books under multiple different lighting conditions at multiple ranges, and angles using the built-in isight for scanning – nothing. Launched Delicious Library, opened isight book scanner, haphazardly waved a book in front of the isight and immediately heard a beep on my first try. Info about the book downloaded immediately and I was done. Booxter was a waste of my time, thankfully not my money. [alert admin]

VectorDesigner 1.4.0 (Mac OS X)
I'd love to leave Adobe Illustrator FOREVER! I cannot stand Adobe anymore, they are a joke! But I can't accomplish much with the exceptionally limited gradient feature in VectorDesigner. I hope that this might improve in the future. Thanks! [alert admin]

Leap 1.0.6 (Mac OS X)
Leap is so ridiculous I'm actually laughing out loud as I type this. I honestly cannot believe that this things is for real, I mean you have GOT to be kidding me! Leap claims to be a superior solution to the Finder, yet Leap can't even run searches as powerfully as the Finder. No boolean, no refinement, this app makes absolutely ZERO sense. Leap allows me to use tags and save my searches to the sidebar-so what!? I can do all of this in the Finder using Spotlight comments for tagging and smart folders to save my searches in the sidebar. It's a tossup as to which is worse, the application designers or the marketing gurus who somehow calculate that Leap is worth the ludicrous price listed, after all, Leap would be a joke as freeware! Adobe Flash Player 10.0.0.525 (Mac OS X)
It's hard to be sure which is the greater boob when it comes to Mac OS X, Adobe or their Flash Player. I have so had it with these people. [alert admin]

Any time I make a change to the window I'm confronted with horrendous screen redraw nightmares that afflict all apps behind it too–NASTY! Also, can't get playlists to display entire name, even if I drag the playlist column wider and wider, instead all titles simply cutoff and end with ”“ ... ”“ The way the visuals ”“kinda but not really”“ respond to the sound is pretty lame”“ - basically there's no reason for me to use this application when I have better alternatives. My Mac is Graphics-card stacked, so no clue as to why it's such an ugly mess. [alert admin]

Adobe Acrobat 9.0 (Mac OS X)
Adobe products continue to get worse and worse and Acrobat is notorious for paving the way. Adobe Acrobat 9 is no exception. The Microsoft-esque marketing is downright embarassing, i.e., Standard, Pro, and Pro Extended, with Standard and Pro Extended being Windows only but Pro is for both Mac and Windows – such a nice little convoluted touch that many are coming to expect from Adobe. Once upon a time Adobe was a reputable company who focused on quality; the Adobe of today is a testament to the unavoidable life-cycle of a growing company—that which was once Roman… PROS A new version is another step towards the enlightenment of unaware users. Yet another version of Acrobat, further bloated with more needless bells and whistles, increases the chance that unaware users will begin to recognize the deceptive pattern and begin to realize they deserve and should demand better for their money. CONS - Transparent marketing scheme reveals more effort invested in smoke screen than product quality (think introduction of the “CS” racket-ah the Bruce Chizen legacy lives on) -Upgrade pricing schemes are asinine-why customers put up with it I have no idea - WIth the currently burgeoning, more sophisticated mobile computing experience, the world is in need of a more optimized format and in turn more responsible tools that don’t promote the addition of senseless, resource wasting features. - Adobe continuing their love for feature creep [alert admin]

Nolobe Iris 1.0 (Mac OS X)
Wow, this looks great! almost like something I'd expect from Apple! BUT THEN I had the audacity to try and use it and WHOA! I know it's 1.0 but I'm not sure I've ever used a Mac application that was as horrendous as this thing. Even clicking on a different tool icon takes longer than it should to actually register and change. Don't even get me started with the text tool as there's no way to edit your text after you type it in-in other words you have to make all of your size, color, etc settings BEFORE you actually enter in the type-and you had better get it right because there's no going back. Now let's ice the cake with the fact that there is NO DOCUMENTATION! Of course in retrospect this seems somewhat understandable as this shovelware doesn't even offer a handful of features, hardly anything, nothing, nada! I'm almost at a loss for words, I have a hard time believing that this isn't just some prank, a practical joke that someone threw up here for a few laughs. And while I almost thought that even test-driving this ball of chud was a waste of time, I feel sorry for the poor scats who wasted time junking this thing together. Yikes! [alert admin]

ConceptDraw MINDMAP 5.4 (Mac OS X)
Impressive (at least for ConceptDraw) ![]()

There isn't much to say about this product in relation to other available mapping products, since the price is silly and it's still not as pretty and elegant as Omnigraffle. Nevertheless, in relation to itself, ConceptDraw has taken a big leap forward with their latest incarnations. For anyone that's even seen past ConceptDraw products, you know that they were the most convoluted and hideous looking applications known to humankind-especially because, like, um, this is all about VISUAL communication here! The only remnants of their abhorrent aesthetic past are the symbols and the clipart, but really, does anyone ever expect clipart from any corner of the planet to look any better than zombie vomit? Me neither. So hats off to ConceptDraw for overcoming a major initial obstacle and finally delivering something that is a bit more visually paletteable. And who knows what the future holds in store, maybe someday MindMap will be able to compete on the more visually inspiring (and user glorious) playing field of the likes of OmniGraffle. Of course even if that becomes so, why is it again that I would ever fork out an iPhone's worth for this thing? [alert admin]
