NewsDecode-UB 2.0.4 (Mac OS X)
The program is very picky about which files it allows to open. It appears to gray out files which do not have the correct creator type, whatever that criteria may be. I tried saving an email message and decode it, but it would not select it. I had to create a text file, open that, save a new text file, and finally coerced the program into opening it. A simple "open recommended" and "open any" option would be nice. The program complained that it found a premature EOF. ok. I asked it to continue. It did not produce anything. Good effort tho. EAN-13 Barcode Generator 1.0 (Windows NT, Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows ME, Windows XP, Windows 2000)
It's nice to see an application which simply downloads, runs, and does what it's supposed to without all the drama. No installation, no dll's, no dot-net or other weird problems. It just works and it's free. Suggestions for rev 1.1 - add a 2/5 digit supplement option. [alert admin]

Cocoa Packet Analyzer 0.58 (Mac OS X)
I have this running on an Intel Mac Mini on 10.4.11. When I started it, it could not find any devices to monitor and brought me to the preferences window. I tend to be the type who reads the manual only if I can't get the software to work. In this case, no need. I clicked on 'scan', I think, and it found my Ethernet adapter. I clicked on capture and it did a fine job of displaying my traffic. It's just a tad annoying to enter my root password every time I ask for a trace, but I can live with that. The program identified a lot of udp, broadcast, and arp commands coming from my Verizon DSL modem. Apparently, Verizon likes to keep tabs on all devices connected to their network at an interval of less than 1 second. I thought I had a virus. Well, kind of. [alert admin]

CoffeeCup SiteMapper 2.0 (Windows NT, Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows ME, Windows XP, Windows 2000)
This is 21 day shareware. After the trial period ends, you need to PAY $29.00. Even considering the current rate of inflation, $29.00 is NOT "free." [alert admin]

Flip4Mac WMV 2.1.0.33 (Mac OS X)
I am using this for viewing wmv files off-line or sent as email attachments i.e. I am not using any plug-in's. It works very well - although, I don't care for the "phone home" feature. Whenever I view a wmv file (on my local machine) or start the player, the app goes out to the Internet. I disabled the "check for updates" - but, it is still trying to connect to a remote server. If I wanted my media player to spy on me, I would still be using Windows Media Player. [alert admin]

PrBoom 2.4.6 (Mac OS X)
Very responsive and robust mouse control, sound, and video. The documentation for as to where to place my wad file wasn't entirely correct, but I figured it out. Only one bug to report. After running Doom II in full-screen mode, the minimize button vanishes from the OS X Finder. The only way to restore the Finder minimize button is to re-launch Finder. Weird. [alert admin]
