Records Master 5.5 (Mac OS X)
I had previously used Stickybrain, the predecessor to SOHO Notes. One simple database corruption and zap, there goes ALL your data (as happened to me). And good luck recovering it. There were two main reasons (and many more smaller ones) I subsequently chose Records Master over a year ago: 1) its method of data storage - it copies files into its package so if you ever have to recover them, it's dead simple. Just "Show package Contents" and there they are, ready to drag or view. 2) I like how, with RM, you can easily create several files with different subjects (eg "Kids' Sports", "Business Expenses", etc), instead of the traditional one megadatabase created by other note savers like SOHO and Mori. This way, I don't need to constantly open a very large file or worse, leave the larger db constantly open and in danger of corruption. It's pretty zippy to just open one smaller file. And if anything goes wrong, you don't lose ALL your snippets you've saved over the years. Corruption doesn't happen often, but when it does, you want recovery to be possible. And with RM, it's dead easy. [alert admin]

MacJournal 2.5.2 (Mac OS X)
Well this was so easy to use, even my 84 year old non-techie mother is finding it a pleasure. She's finally getting around to the project of writing her memoires - a project that was just too daunting for her before MacJournal came along (Word was just too confusing for her) A million thanks to the author! IPAnnounceX 0.8.2 (Mac OS X)
I'm using Timbuktu to control/manage my 84 year old mother's flat panel iMac (10.2.6). She lives in a distant city and uses a DSL connection with a dynamic IP, so IPAnnounceX is a terrifically useful utility. However, I'm noticing that every 1-3 days, IPAnnounceX seems to quit for no apparent reason. Process Viewer shows the Process Status as Zombie. Any thoughts? [alert admin]

Galerie 2.7 (Mac OS X)
I also downloaded and assessed 7-10 programs a few weeks ago. Several were equally easy to use, but this one provides by far the nicest results via the templates. Five stars for doing what it says it will do...beautifully. I'm sure I'll be able to use it for future projects. Unfortunately, I still couldn't have used it for a project I worked on a few weeks ago. In case the developer's looking for improvement ideas, here are a couple (I have no idea how hard or easy this is to write): a) Create a 3 stage connection between photos, as follows 1) Thumbnail index 2) Larger picture (eg 640 x 480) 3) Full original image (often 3-5 megapixels) I needed to do this to enable a bunch of non-technical people to easily browse a large library of pix and enable them to just download their favorites, but ensure they were able to download the full quality original. Just giving them 2 stages (thumbnail and original) just wouldn't do the job elegantly - the thumbnails are too small to see clearly and the originals are too large (and confusing, since they only see part of the picture in their browser window b) Add pages of pix incrementally over time I'll often create, say, 5 pages of photos and later want to add a few more. It would be nice to be able to do this without recreating the entire process (inclusing ALL pix again). Thanks again to the developer! [alert admin]

CiphSafe 1.2.0 (Mac OS X)
Still loving it after converting my lengthy TextEdit file to CiphSafe (I tested a few other password protected products over the past year, but this is the 1st one I felt was worth the conversion project)
A few suggestions for improvements in future versions...

CiphSafe 1.2.0 (Mac OS X)
I've only been using this for 1/2 hour, but what a pleasure! I agree with Heb's comments. Simple, elegant and useful. Kudo's FYI to Heb - if you control click on the column headers, you will see a list of columns to view. Select the Category column (or "all" columns). You can then sort by category [alert admin]

Now Up-to-Date & Contact X 4.2.6 (Mac OS X)
for about as long as it's been around. In fact, my 30 person sales force used it very effectively and I now use it at home as well as a family calendar and contact list (important at home when you have 4 active kids). Overall, I'm a fan, but I do have mixed feelings. Here are several comments in no special order: 1) It's by far and away the best MULTI-USER progrm for the Mac, and I've tested all of them 2) If multi-user capabilities weren't important to me, I doubt I'd use it since it doesn't offer enough extra value vs Entourage 3) It's no longer as good as several low-to-mid end Windows programs (although it once was); way too much time was lost as NUCD moved from owner to owner. I'm delighted that Poweron looks determined to significantly improve the product and should be commended/encouraged. They certainly have many examples on the Windows side to learn from. 4) Some posters here have suggested it's not important to be compatible with Address Book. I disagree - although I wouldn't and don't use Address book as my main database, there are several other products that tap into it (eg Mail, Fax software, better labelling software, etc) so I need to unnecessarily duplicate info. So it *would* be nice if NUCD could easily populate Address Book and maintain sync 5) Although Entourage can't handle multi-user, it does a great job of integrating *all* info for a single user. One key omission, and a long time frustration for me, is NUCD's lack of a useful link with email software. I want to know more than just "I sent an email". I want a hotlink to the email message itself. I live with this omission, but I still find it annoying. 6) I'm seriously hoping Poweron continues to focus on a) stability (which I'm pleased with) and b) adding sorely missing features, rather than worrying too much about eye candy. NUCD is too far behind its Windows counterparts - feature for [alert admin]

I don't know what your specific situation was but I personally found the opposite - that support was outstanding. When I did have a file corruption problem this year, they took care of it very quickly and diligently.
