...while dragging icons into its main window... ...so it gets dragged right in to the trash. Too bad too, I'd love an "iPhoto for icons." :-( [alert admin]

Parallels Desktop 3.0 Build 5120.0 (Mac OS X)
...after being fed up with the constant "Failed to allocate specified amount of memory" errors, lack of customer support, and installing (broken) build after build, I am returning this (defective) product for a refund. You can follow the full report here, at Parallels' forum. [alert admin]

Parallels Desktop 3.0 Build 5060.0 (Mac OS X)
Previous versions were good, but the latest ones really are "bricks." ![]()

I've been happy with the performance and features of Parallels in the past, but the past few versions have been nonstarters. No matter what I do (turn on/off "virtual memory preallocation," restart Parallels, restart the machine, etc.) I still receive "Parallels Desktop failed to allocate the specified amount of memory." with a 512k partition on a *16 GIGABYTE* laden machine. Ridiculous. They get one more shot at fixing this (I've sent a few messages to their tech. support) and then I'll be asking for my money back. [alert admin]

The game looks gorgeous on a Quad Mac Pro at 2560x1600x32... Unfortunately, voice-overs completely cut out after the 4th or 5th person (when using OpenAL, which, to be fair, you are warned about "sound dropouts" with this version of OpenAL). However, the game exits back to the title screen when you try and go to the next area (Mars Underground), making this version unplayable. [alert admin]

Fast DVD Copy 4.0.4 (Mac OS X)
Doesn't work AND treated like a criminal AND no refunds? Oh the irony... ![]()

I have wasted 4 or 5 dual-layer DVDs backing up a set of hard-to-find DVDs for my own use. The software might have a pretty face, but it just doesn't work. Which would have been a lot more tolerable if the unlock/registration/serial-number scheme wasn't such a huge pain in the ass. And, unfortunately, I had ass-u-me'd that, like 99% of the software that I own, would work on my desktop as well as my laptop. WRONG. And "customer service" sending email after email with the same serial number (that doesn't work) to try and permanently install it on a different machine has lead to large amounts of frustration. And, even more unfortunately, the company has "a strict no refunds policy!" Which, to be honest, doesn't surprised me at all. If you are going to be shady, you might as well make sure the customer *cough*mark*cough* can't get their money back. ...and this from a company who sells a software product that makes it easy to steal multiple types of media and games... Irony? Yeah. [alert admin]

A simple, clean interface that allows you to rip your CDs using the higher quality MPEG-4 encoder with the "best" encoding option in QuickTime. Encoding is slower than iTunes, but the results are great! [alert admin]

Make Mine MPEG-4 4.5.1 (Mac OS X)
This has driven me crazy for awhile now. 4.5 is shown to be "out of date," yet the 4.5.1 version that is downloaded is still 4.5. I don't want to "skip version" either, as I don't want to miss a "real" 4.5.1 if it comes out. RaarRrrrrg. [alert admin]

Still Carbon, not Cocoa = no 64-bit either
That'd be a total rewrite. Don't hold your breath. I'm rather surprised how much support they've given to the Mac, period!

1.7 corrupt my mp3 files while analyzing
Hmmmm.... ....interesting.... Nearly ALL of my QuickTime compressed files (AAC/192/Best) stopped playing... in QuickTime there is just silence, while iTunes, iPod(s), and Apple TV just skip over them... I thought that the upgrade to QuickTime 7 may have been the culprit, but no amount of wiping/installed/etc. brought the files back... ...so I spent the last 30 (man)hours re-ripping thousands of songs... ...perhaps now there is an answer! I had let MipM 1.7 analyze my whole library - it took about…
