Library Books 2.6b156 (Mac OS X)

Wonderful!

Simple, easy to use, way to track your library books without any muss or fuss. My library wasn't listed, but that was okay - set up was a breeze, and once I set it up Library Books has worked flawlessly and without my intervention since. My only suggestion is to add a way for users to add their library to the pre-set Library Books database. Other than that feature request, Library Books is a complete and great program to use. MailWidget 3.00 (Mac OS X)

Simple, great product!

Does exactly what it says it's going to do. Small imprint, simple to use, and very helpful. Definitely the best notifier I've ever used - it's been a staple of my Dashboard for quite some time! [alert admin]

Golden Records 1.16 (Mac OS X)

Has potential, but not quite there yet

If you're like me and are searching for a quick and easy way to rip vinyl, keep searching. Golden Records is probably the closest to the ideal that I've seen, but still, it's not perfect. Recording quality is sub par compared to other options (e.g. Sound Studio), and many of its features aren't perfected quite yet. For example, many of the "filters" for better audio quality resulted in even worse sound quality, the ability to rip 33 records by playing them at 45 RPM resulted in many bad tracks, and it can't quite find the right place to insert splits into files. After playing with it for a few weeks I found myself giving it as much effort as I had with less "automatic" options. That, plus a few crashes, makes me not quite ready to give this app my full support. It's entirely possible that a version 2 will address a lot of these problems, and I look forward to revisiting the software as newer versions emerge. [alert admin]

Absolute Farkle 3.0 (Mac OS X)

Not worth it

As a freeware package or a programming exercise this is a fine program, but it just lacks a lot of qualities I'd expect in a $20 shareware program. Play is a bit slow, graphics are adequate at best, and perhaps most important, it just doesn't feel very "Mac-like". It reminds me of the programs I used to make back in high school - not a "ready for prime time" program worth $20. [alert admin]

MailWidget 2.04 (Mac OS X)

Simple, elegant - perfect!

I honestly can't believe this has only a 3 star rating. I've been using Mail Widget for months and find it the simplest, most elegant mail checker yet. It does exactly what it claims - gives you a count of emails in your server - and makes it easy to start Mail to find them. Sure there are widgets that will give more and I think that's great, but if simplicity is what you're looking for then I highly recommend this! Kudos to the developer! [alert admin]

PandoraBoy 0.1 (Mac OS X)

Solid start to what will be a great program

I'm a big fan of Wincent's Synergy program that lets you control iTunes using hotkeys. This program does the same with Pandora. It's simple to use and does exactly what's promised. It's obviously still very young, and it could use a few more polishes to the interface (I'm not a fan of the logo). But it's a solid start, and I think Pandora users will find this program invaluable. [alert admin]

Solitaire Plus! 1.2 (Mac OS X)

Decent, at best

This is certainly a fun collection of solitaire games, but gameplay and graphics aren't up to par with some other collections out there (notably Solitaire Forever). Some of the commands seem counterintutive (why does starting a new game ask me if I want to quit?), and the demo warning is a bit annoying. It could use a bit of work, but would be fine if it were free. I'm just not sure it's worth $20 when there are other, better paid programs out there. [alert admin]

Sound Studio 3.0.3 (Mac OS X)

It's okay, but it's nowhere near the best

I find it's interface is incredibly clunky and counter intuitive, and the response time is just plain slow. It's definitely slicker than some of the other software options available, but I think others are much better. [alert admin]

Media Indexer 1.0 PR 2 (Mac OS X)

Still new, but a very solid start

It's clearly a new application, and there's still room for a few features and useability tweaks. But even in its pre-release form it's very easy to use, very fast, and very functional. It's a great start to a promising project! Keep up the good work! [alert admin]
