WorldWebAccess MAC Dial Up Accelerator 5.0 (Mac OS X)

MAC?

I'm very cautious of a product where the developer makes the common PeeCee weenie mistake of referring to the Mac as MAC. MAC means Media Access Control, not Macintosh. On top of that he uses a Windows screen shot. Oh brother. [alert admin]

OnyX 1.8.2 (Mac OS X)

Not a Bad App.

I like Onyx OK. Very much like Tiger Cache Cleaner, K0cktale, MacJanitor and such. It does it's job very well. However, why does it use an installer to merely copy an application bundle into the Applications folder? Why not a simple drag & drop? And more annoying, why does it needlessly ask for an admin name & password to copy this application bundle - when the current log-in is an admin account with full access privileges to the Application folder? Apps that needlessly ask for a password to merely copy an application bundle to the Applications folder promote user apathy. A user should be prompted for administrative criteria only when necessary. Requiring administrative credentials to copy an application bundle to the Applications folder while logged in as an Administrator is just plain dumb. [alert admin]

Finish This Already! :)

I love the older version, although it gets a bit slow as the year progresses and the database grows... Been looking forward for a long time to an upgrade. [alert admin]

SilverFast Ai (Nikon) LS 8000/9000 ED 6.4.4r6 (Mac OS 9, Mac OS X)

Excellent

I have used SilverFast on several scanners, and it's predecessor from Linocolor. It has always been a tool that provides time-use efficiency and quality images. NikonScan always produced streaks in my scans unless I used Super Fine Scan. That got slow doing that with every image! I was led by Nikon to believe this was a hardware issue. However, I have no streaking whatsoever with Silverfast, leading me to believe they don't have a clue. I highly recommend SilverFast! [alert admin]

Eudora 6.2.3 (Mac OS X)

Wished for Features

I've been using Eudora since 1998 and love it. There are two things I need in the near future: I am needing to be able to exchange mail in the Greek language, which I can do with Apple Mail. I also need for Eudora to stop truncating the names of attachments with long file names. These two features, along with some GUI spit & polish would make me a happy camper again. [alert admin]

Microtek ScanMaker ScanWizard 7.51 (Mac OS X)

Worst Scanner Software Ever

I don't remember seeing the feature called "Unable to locate scanner" when I bought my 6800. Everyone, save yourself the grief and use either SilverFast or VueScan. [alert admin]

TechTool Pro 4.0.5 (Mac OS X)

CD Updater

I don't want to install this on my machine and I certainly don't want to create an eDrive! All I want to do is update the CD. Is there not a way of updating the CD in the fashion Alsoft does with DiskWarrior? I used to love TTP version 2. I liked the simple interface. TTP version 3 was a step backward in regards to interface. TTP version 4 has a disgusting interface. And the insistence of creating an eDrive is appalling. [alert admin]

StuffIt Deluxe 9.0.2 (Mac OS X)

Credit Card To Download The Demo?

These fools who now own this product require a credit card number and other information to download the demo. I'll take that as strong evidence of poor treatment of their customers. I'll pass. [alert admin]

Font Reserve 3.1.4 (Mac OS 9, Mac OS X)

What's New???

I like how the "What's new in this version" only says what's not new in this version. : ) What's new in this version: This update do not address the Adobe CS 2 issues which will be addressed in a separate update. [alert admin]

MacTheRipper 2.6.6 (Mac OS X)

Region 9 Discs

What's one to do about Region 9 DVDs? My Sony SLV-D550P doesn't know what to do with it. DVD Player plays it fine. MacTheRipper doesn't seem to be aware of Region 9 DVDs either. [alert admin]

Serial Number Not Valid

I thought it was really cool of the developer to lock my serial number because somebody else used someone else's serial number. Real cool. I just moved on to the other free apps that do the same thing without all the bureaucracy.

Not a happy user!

Couple of clarifications. What I meant to ask was how long are your DCHP lease times, and don't you use static maps?

Not a happy user!

Regarding your DHCP issue, can't you make static reservations? Also, do you have internal DNS functioning, allowing reverse-dns lookups? I also don't have the problems you describe with laptops. Regardless, have you considered server based home folders?

Huh?

Agreed. And I would like to add that above all people using CS2 on Intel Macs really should refrain. For crying out loud - don't you realize your running under an emulation environment called Rosetta? There's a remedy for that. It's called CS3.

Powerful but unstable. Shame to Nikon.

Efficient? You have got to be kidding me! That is the last word I would use to describe Nikon Scan. I've been using Nikon Scan on my LS-8000 for probably 5 years. Silverfast cost about $900 at the time so I took a pass, but now that I own Silverfast I wish I had been using it from the get-go. Many hours of wasted time with Nikon Scan would have been saved!
Nikon Scan is pathetic:

Eudora Open Source Clarification

Good info, yes. But Sever Dorner is leading the group building the new Eudora on top of Thunderbird. So I will consider it to still be Eudora. Or something even better - ThunDora! :)

Rubish

I would also like to add that Nikon's own software, NikonScan, is definitely rubbush. I used it for years because when I first bought my LS8000 SilverFast cost about $900 US. Far too much, so I made do with NikonScan. I tried VueScan, but that app is such s joke. Then the price dropped for SilverFast and I bought it. I wish now that I had paid the higher price and been using it all along!…
