Butler 4.0b19 (Mac OS X)
I used a lot of launchers alone the way, but this is the only one that I have used across more than one version and I am confident that that I won't have any reason to change. This application is good enough that it is likely on the list for integration with OSX 10.5 :) [alert admin]

Teal pp8 (Mac OS X)
Small cool and more than many casual users will need. can't recommend this enough. If you're used to photoshop or similar you may spend some time getting up to speed on this one. Otherwise, you will just get into it and question why you would need to spend hundreds of dollars for something else. [alert admin]

iTerm 0.8.0 (Mac OS X)
I really wanted to like this application ![]()

After talking to a bunch of developers at my shop I decided to take a chance on iTerm because I really wanted tabbed windows. Once I got my tabbed windows - that was the last good thing I had to say about the product. I did like the rendesvous features, but I didn't really need that because the boxes I need to get to don't run it. I did enjoy being able to log terminal output, but I have never need to use that either. I don't have a lot of bad to say about it - but its nothing special beyond the tabbed windows. Its slower than terminal. It crashes - and that's just not acceptable for me when writing code or tailing log files. When I ssh into other boxes (Solaris boxes), terminal maintains good VT100 key'ing with backspaces and such, with iTerm i start getting the funky ^?s and everything. Overall I just wasn't able to use it for the same tasks that I was using terminal - at least without some annoyances. So unfortunately this application is kinda - meh, I can live without it. I like the tabbing, but I can't have a terminal application that crashes. That's just not acceptable. [alert admin]

Goldberg X 2.4 (Mac OS X)
I can't believe this is free because it does so much of what I used to use Photoshop for. It loads quickly (unlike Photoshop) and its more intuitive. There are a LOT of things that its missing in order to compete with products of that caliber, but for a freeware application - this thing is excellent, just excellent. Heck even if I had to pony up a few bones for this one - it would still be worth the money. [alert admin]

Its relatively simple, but attractive and really a lot of fun. Great arcade action fun. [alert admin]

America Online (AOL) 10.3 (Mac OS X)
* Not working - wont even access the AOL network How AOL who is hemmoraging users like crazy could put out such an unusable piece of crap on OSX is beyond me. They need to just discontinue the software if this is the crap we're going to get. I'm sure Microsoft MacBU and MSN would give us actually working software. [alert admin]

DbVisualizer 4.0.4 (Mac OS 9, Mac OS X)
DB Visualizer remains the best database tool out there in any language unless you need VERY database specific functionality. While the free version does most things you'll need - if you pay for the 'commercial' version, the tool gets even cooler. Highly recommended for anyone. It also shows that the vast majority of Java GUI programmers just suck terribly because this tool just does it all right, quickly, and with a UI that is excellent and easy to user/understand. Poisoned 0.495 (Mac OS X)
Doesn't appear to actually download in 10.3
While the application is absolutely a beauty and is more user friendly than any other application I've used on OSX, the application doesn't appear to actually do anything on 10.3 except set the downloads to the waiting state. [alert admin]

SlashDock 2.3.6 (Mac OS X)
The first app I always make sure is installed ![]()

As a developer I end up restaging my machine all the time (reformat, reinstall). Because of this there are few applications that I bother to have installed on ever refresh - but Slashdock is most certainly one of the first applications I install. It keeps me up to date with what's going on in the world and is the perfect dock application. While others try to use other larger more 'bloated' applications to do the job, this one is really all you need. [alert admin]

PiXel Check 1.2 (Mac OS X)
This software simply does not work in the latest rev from Apple same as many other applications - it attempts to start and crashes immediately, disappearing from the dock. [alert admin]
