DivX Doctor II 2.2 (Mac OS 9, Mac OS X)
Although it worked with 10.4.6, on launch attempt under 10.4.7 the operation fails with the following shown on the Console: “…launch failed with error code -2857 (cfragCFragRsrcErr) for application /Applications/DivX Doctor” [alert admin]

Our Vienna-based organization needed a Word to XML converter and fast. This product was reasonably priced and the Word to DocBook converter fit the bill; it ditched most of the WordML crap while leaving enough for us to transform usefully. The company seems to care about the product, offering good support and timely updates. This is definitely worth a look for anyone concerned with Word to XML conversion. [alert admin]

coconutIdentityCard 0.5 (Mac OS X)
The application doesn’t launch under Mac OS X 10.3.9, so it requires 10.4 or newer. [alert admin]

The worst software ever created. Every clip you try to play requires a component called "cook" which, guess what, "can't be found". This application requires a new category, pointlessware. [alert admin]

MPlayer OS X 2.0b7 (Mac OS X)
It would have been nicer if they released a 2.0 final, then bumped the requirement up to 10.3 if necessary (is it really necessary?) for a subsequent release. (FYI, 10.2 users have to stick with 2.0b6.) [alert admin]

Stick with the 1.4 branch (and the upcoming 1.4.1 release) until they put MNG+JNG back in. [alert admin]

Firefox does read IE 5.5 pages. Only IE will completely 100% handle pages written specifically to work completely 100% only in IE.

It uses the same web page-rendering engine as Safari, so it's exactly the same speed as Safari.

Correction: it did uninstall correctly. My DSL modem did something to itself while the Tuner was installed that caused line speed to drop precipitously. Power-cycling the modem restored full speed.

This product does not actually uninstall properly. After uninstall my bandwidth remains reduced to approximately 15% of its' former level.

Intended for Satellite Connections
Yep, 't'would seem you're right. I did this as an experiment, and my DSL connection suffered a 90% speed drop. That's no misprint, 90%. Luckily, full speed was restored on uninstall. It's odd, I would imagine it possible to conduct a pre-install test to determine applicability. Hm.

Not surprising at all. Prosoft is taking the approach of forcing an upgrade for Mac OS support, rather than giving Mac OS users easy access to their legacy products. Of course, convincing typical vendor-lock-in CTOs to upgrade their Novell installations for Mac support is laughable, so chaulk up yet another mark in the Loss column for Novell. Na na naaa na, na na naaa na, hey heeeey hey, goodbye (to your stock options)

…okay, but how? Are you sure? It only “seems” to be less stable? If it’s crashing like Paris Hilton behind the wheel of an H2 you ought to have more conclusive evidence. How much does it “seem” to be less stable? How much less stable does it “seem” to be? Unless you give more detail, comments like this are little different than those saying OS X updates “feel snappier.”

Yep (I read the same generic useless support page you’re quoting, btw). Any more bright ideas? No?

No, it doesn't sound like a "corrupted copy". This was a newly downloaded copy on a perfectly fine drive. Don't give up your day job for a career in tech. support.
