Skype 2.7.0.257 (Mac OS X)
This is put on here merely as an FYI, since VT doesn't post everything it needs to under that section. Mac computer with G4 800 Mhz processor or faster. Mac OS X v10.3.9 Panther or later. For higher-resolution video a faster processor (Core 2 Duo) and a broadband connection with at least 384kbps upload speeds. 512 MB RAM. 40 MB free disk space on your hard drive. Microphone and speakers or headset. Download drivers for your webcam. Internet connection (broadband is best, GPRS is not supported for voice calls, and results may vary on a satellite connection). Even if you just use this for a word processor (it opens Word files and it's 1.1 MB) then you need this app. I write both original fiction and fanfiction and this allows me to keep track of any and all items I need to keep track of. I've even gone so far as to post this on the Make Believe Yahoo group and say "You must get this!!!" So basically saying "You must get this!!!!!!!!!!!!" [alert admin]

Adobe Premiere Pro 3.2 (Mac OS X)
Adobe abandoned the Mac market because Final Cut Pro made its first appearance (way back in the Classic days). Now they are trying to get them back by releasing Premiere for Intel only. This seems like a stupid strategy in the short run, because most users are still PowerPC. In the long run, this will wind up being good (since Apple will most likely stop PPC support within 5 years), BUT...the fact that many Mac users feel burned by Adobe all around means they won't be switching from Final Cut or even iMovie anytime soon. Mactracker 5.0.1 (Mac OS X)
Only the admin can use it (again)
This was a major problem with a previous version also. This version has the same problem of being unusable except as an administrator. While I do recommend it, hang off on the update until this is fixed. [alert admin]

Apple Security Update 2008-001 (Mac OS X)
This is on a Digital Audio G4 at 733 MHz. No problems in printing either. So far, it seems pretty darn safe, despite the naysayers. [alert admin]

Yahoo! Messenger 3.0b2.78326 (Mac OS X)
Mac users are still being treated like red-headed stepchildren when it comes to Yahoo Messenger. No voice chat, no real feature parity compared to the Windows version, and it seems like nothing we say to them can solve the problem. I've contacted Yahoo several times saying that we should have feature parity, but apparently Yahoo has their collective heads up their collective butts and refuses to do anything about it. Every time I've sent a feature parity request to them, I got greeted by the exact same item: Hello, Thank you for writing to Yahoo! Messenger. We understand that you would like to update the Mac version of Yahoo! Messenger. For now, we don't have an exact schedule stating when the Mac version of Yahoo! Messenger will be updated. We appreciate your suggestions a great deal, as it is through user comments and feedback that we are able to continue to make improvements. We always have something on the drawing board, and many of our best new features have been suggested directly by users like you. We apologize for the inconvenience this may have caused. Thank you again for contacting Yahoo! Messenger. This message essentially says "screw you, we're doing what we want" when what should have been done was something like "OK, we'll forward this request (along with the 10,000 other requests for feature parity) to our development team. Clearly, this is something that needs addressed." So, the only thing I can truly recommend at this time is to go to Skype if you want cross platform video chat or go to Adium for a regular IM client. Don't even waste your time working with something that Yahoo clearly does not care about. [alert admin]

Halloween Poems 1.3b2 (Mac OS X)
As an elementary teacher, I would love to see a program that can handle all holidays like this. It's a great way to get students interested in writing, so please expand this for all of the "school holidays." [alert admin]

Apple iLife 08 (Mac OS X)
Breaking out the you know what
So our iBook G4's bought just a little bit over a year ago are now unable to run iMovie, a CONSUMER level video editor? I mean, you'd think Apple would want CONSUMERS to use a CONSUMER level video editor without plunking down tons more money to get a new Mac. Hopefully someone will say it can run on G4 systems or I will be finding alternatives right quick. [alert admin]

The problem is that a lottery isn't truly random. There are slight differences that will give one number a SLIGHTLY higher (note emphasis) chance of coming up, such as paint and minute weight differences. While I agree with you that predictors like this probably won't work, let's not assume that a lottery is truly random.

Usually what happens is that Opera is rendering the page correctly (read: not like MSIE) while the others pretend to be MSIE.

Window version always ahead and more stable! Why is that???
Companies tend to view Mac users and (more so than Mac users) Linux users as third class citizens and therefore unworthy of their time.

Well, Firewire appears in every crash report I see that is sent to Apple. Does this also mean that Firewire is no longer supported by Apple also? I ask this simply because that the idea of blaming every crash on one item (APE) is ludicrous unless you're capable of proving it.

OK, so I decided to test this out and used PowerBall as the guinea pig for this project. Based upon the previous numbers (and no tinkering with preferences whatsoever), I had the Lotto Sorcerer create 25 discrete combinations: 03-06-08-15-32 BB:01 09-12-18-29-36 BB:06 03-08-09-15-49 BB:10 05-13-16-17-44 BB:12 06-07-26-29-40 BB:37 16-21-31-39-41 BB:09 04-06-08-22-49 BB:12 12-18-19-26-40 BB:35 04-14-21-27-42 BB:29 02-03-09-37-55 BB:26 02-12-14-20-44 BB:29 05-09-26-30-45 BB:09 19-23-35-45-49 BB:31 05-13-17-31-51 BB:09 23-26-36-41-51 BB:10 01-10-11-37-55 BB:13 36-37-40-42-49 BB:35 02-03-27-39-49 BB:35 06-28-29-30-37 BB:09 19-33-36-41-55 BB:12 10-24-35-45-50 BB:33 05-26-36-41-51 BB:37 01-04-20-40-53 BB:01 01-13-36-40-50 BB:10 The winning PowerBall numbers were: 36-38-42-54-55 BB:24 Needless to say, if I would have played…

Ok it's free but why use this?
Actually, you should assume things are where the OS installs it. Otherwise, how the hell are you supposed to do anything? Since it seems ot rely on where 10.4 installs it, the system requirements needs to be changed to 10.4 or higher.

Why not use Fink for free (can also install KDE, GNOME, etc.)
I explained that to a friend of mine wanting a Mactel for a tri-boot system (Win, Mac, and Linux). I said "You can use Fink and X11 to run the Linux stuff." He agreed with me. Then I asked why Linux users don't do this and he said "because it's not free as in beer." Hopefully it isn't the case of Linux users wanting everything for nothing.
