Interarchy 9.0.1 (Mac OS X)

Be wary of developer

The 9.0.1 update does fix some bugs and address a few complaints, but doesn't address many of the problems people had been pointing out on the developer's forum. I would caution people to read the comments from users on the developer's forum... but they can't because it has been taken offline (for "maintenance"). Even while it was still up, there was lots of censorship and I suspect a good number of fake positive posts. Even with that, you could see that many users have been unhappy with the whole 9.x experience, and the way Nolobe/Matthew Drayton responded to his users. That said, 9.0.1 _is_ a step in the right direction, but I've lost respect for the developer. Mr. Drayton has to work much harder to earn that back. Shuttering your forums and rick-rolling your "mailing list" links are two steps in the wrong direction. At some point customer service has to be improved and the updates need to come more quickly. We were promised a network traffic monitor months ago to replace the feature that was removed from Interarchy, and that hasn't appeared. [alert admin]

Retrospect 6.1.126 (Mac OS X)

Dear EMC, I don't think we should see each other anymore

I think it is time for EMC to either stop supporting MacOS altogether or make a real darn version update. I'm thinking they'll do the former, and I sure wouldn't pay for the latter at this point. It isn't them, it is me. I want a backup solution that can work with multiple platforms, and they're happy with one, and it isn't made by Apple. I've been happy in my relationship with Retrospect since the 1900's, way back in the System 7 days, but having been stuck with version 6.x since January 2004, I just feel like my system has progressed, and retrospect hasn't. The past 3 years have been some of the most backed-up years of my systems implementation, but I think that now the time has come for my system to start working with other backup programs. Retrospect has Windows, and they really seem nice together. I'm glad to see that. I just think that right now, it would be better if my system weren't backed up at all than having it think it was backed up but not really be able to restore. It has been nice, and I wish Retrospect the best with its new owner, but I just don't think we're compatible anymore. [alert admin]
