Apple iPhoto 8.1 (Mac OS X)

iPhoto is quitting unexpectedly when I open it. Using 8.1 on 10.6 (but also happened while running 10.5.8). Presume it has something to do with the library. I tried opening another library and pulling pictures from the old one but I can't do that... the old library I'm having problems with isn't available to import photos from it. (using the file/import to library...) I've tried holding down shift ctl cmd and rebuilding thumb pictures, etc. no luck. Any ideas? Appreciate the help. [alert admin]
