David's Backgammon 5.7.1 (Mac OS 9, Mac OS X)
Long Time Mac Game = Great Support ![]()

I've been playing David's game since before the advent of OS X. When I've needed support, usually when I need a new serial for a new computer, David has been prompt in providing it, and he updates his game frequently. Right now I'm playing it on an Intel running MacBook Pro with no hitches or problems whatsoever. I'm not a backgammon expert, but the features and level of play seem excellent to me. In the past I've had to stop using software from independent developers because they do no provide updates or long term support like David has done and continues to do for his outstanding backgammon game. crime?! Shareware to me means I pay for it if I want to pay for it. If a software author seeks payment for a product that he distributes freely, he'd be wise not to call me a criminal. [alert admin]

Synchronize! Pro X 2.1 (Mac OS X)
rate a product on the "sheer fact that it's $100," is both unfair and suspicious logic--particularly since you also tout another product. Would you give, for example, Mercedes automobiles a one star rating because of their cost? I contend that products should only be rated according to their features and performance. If you think the cost unreasonable, then by all means recommend a cheaper alternative, but you should be aware what may be expensive--or cheap--to you, could be the opposite to another user. In other words, "cheapness" and "expensiveness" are subjective considerations. Features and performance are objective considerations. Shouldn't we strive to be objective in our ratings here? Isn't objectivity inherently more fair than subjectivity? [alert admin]

I loved autohide, but it stopped working in Leopard on my Macbook Pro. I confess that I never paid for it but I'll atone for my sin if the developer upgrades it: double maybe triple the shareware price.

To allay possible suspicions, I'm not a shill for Prosoft or any other software company for that matter. Date Rescue II is a fine piece of software. I've used it perhaps a dozen times since the first version, Data Rescue X. I've experienced no problems whatsoever. It simply did the job and was simple to operate. I don't know what else one can ask from an application, but in over twenty-five years of computing, I've learned…

I'm curious. On what basis do you make your scurrilous charges? I smell the taint of religionism.
