Lotto Sorcerer X 5.6 (Mac OS X)
Here's a REAL result... VERY SAD!! ![]()

I was all set to give the application a try. The theory is valid (not sure if their ap really used such an algorithm or not) so I tested it to see if it could pick just ONE number correctly. Using Illinois' Mega Lotto (5 numbers + bonus number), here is Sorcerer's extremely vague result, and the actual winning number. You determine if your odds were any greater with this application... --- begin quote from Lotto Sorcerer X's analysis --- NON-BONUS BALL SECTION ANALYSIS Analysis of the prior draws for the non-bonus ball section calculates that the best strategy is by picking numbers from a pool of one hot number, 2 cold numbers and 2 non-hot/non-cold numbers. Hot number pool: 2, 7, 8, 18, 20, 24, 25, 27, 28, 29, 31, 32, 36, 38, 39, 48, 52, 53 Non-hot/non-cold number pool: 1, 4, 5, 11, 12, 14, 16, 17, 21, 34, 35, 37, 43, 44, 45, 46, 50, 51, 54, 56 Cold number pool: 3, 6, 9, 10, 13, 15, 19, 22, 23, 26, 30, 33, 40, 41, 42, 47, 49, 55 BONUS BALL ANALYSIS Analysis of the prior draws for the bonus ball calculates that the best strategy is by picking the number from the pool of cold numbers. Hot number pool: 1, 4, 9, 10, 12, 15, 19, 22, 33, 36, 37, 42, 44, 45, 46 Non-hot/non-cold number pool: 2, 5, 6, 7, 8, 13, 14, 24, 26, 27, 28, 29, 30, 31, 32, 41 Cold number pool: 3, 11, 16, 17, 18, 20, 21, 23, 25, 34, 35, 38, 39, 40, 43 SUMMARY Average Standard Deviation: 19.320 Average Arithmetic Mean: 28.077 Average Median: 39.460 Average Sum: 168.460 % Even: 53.67% If the next drawing follows the suggested strategy, the odds of winning the highest prize (jackpot) has improved from 1:175,711,536 to 1:37,911,360, an improvement of 78%. The suggested numbers displayed are based on the suggested strategy. Please note that this analysis greatly increases in accuracy when you have entered the maximum number of past drawings (224) into the database. --- end quote from Lotto Sorcerer X's analysis --- First, to pick a number for their list of numbers is far too random and very unhelpful. Secondly, here is the actual winning numbers... 13-17-24-34-56 bonus ball = 24 The bonus ball as NOT in the list of cold numbers (as they advised), and there would have been no way to even come close without it. They cover their hind ends by saying that your odds increase with more sampled numbers. The demo only provides 50. I suppose I could have sat here and attempt to accurately entered all of the additional 900 numbers (150 x 6), OR I could BUY the numbers list OR subscribe (Pay) to get the list on a regular basis. Conclusion. Far too much money for such as incredibly vague system. PAY for the full version. PAY more money forever for the numbers. THEN we split the possible numbers into just 3 long lists (hot, cold, medium)where YOU choose the numbers. In short, YOU are just choosing YOUR numbers at random. I was expecting perhaps just a "hot list" of less than 50% of the possible choices from which to choose. If I were to take $4 and buy 4 quick-pick numbers, my odds would have been decreased by about the same amount (75%). This means that if I buy quick-pick numbers rather than spending money on the software and subscriptions, I'd have about the same odds , and I'd already have the tickets in my pocket... rather than spending the money (and tons of time) on useless software in my computer, and still no tickets in my pocket. Take the money and go get quick pick tickets. With each one you buy, your odds get better proportionally. DO you think spending $30 on software, especially in this "system" where YOU must choose the numbers, will give you better than 30 times the odds? Just buy 30 tickets instead. Even better, go to a local casino where some games and slot machines are close to a 99-in-100 return on your money (with a few free drinks and some fun), compared to a state lottery where most games are is less than 50-in-100 return (even if you win, you get only half of what the odds are). 3D Desktop Butterfly Screen Saver 1.0 (Mac OS X)
I'm not too impressed. Unlike the fish, the butterflies' motion are very simple objects. In addition, there aren't any fine details such as bubbles or the rippling shadows across the bottom to enhance the realism. To pay for removing the advertising and access additional butterflies is too high for such a rudimentary animated screensaver. Put the butterflies (and other flying/crawling things) in a field with waving grasses and flowers, under slowly moving/morphing clouds, and prairie sounds in the background... then I might consider it to be an innovative enough screensaver to purchase. Grants.gov 1.0.3 (Mac OS X)
Never could get anything to appear. The Internet Explorer interface was very unintuitive and I could never figure out how to get anywhere on the website. Both the software and navigation made any sense. It would take less time to write it and send it snail mail, which is exactly what I'll do. Obviously, the US government wants to keep funds away from individuals and small organizations that cannot afford the time or money to hire professionals that can decrypt this nightmarish system they have put in place. BitTorrent 4.3.6 (Mac OS X)
Crap - at the speed of a drunken slug. I have NEVER seen ANY files with a download time less than several DAYS!! Using my home's cable modem and my work's T1 line, I have tried and tested BT with everything from popular aps to obscure image files. All of them have a download time ranging between forever and never. I could probably write my own program in the time it takes to download the ap I seek. In the year 2006, this is NOT the way technology should work!!! [alert admin]

Symantec Norton Personal Firewall 3.0.3 (Mac OS 9, Mac OS X)
The Best Mac Firewall/Virus Advice...
Your local Apple store has over 30 Macs of all shapes and sizes on the internet with full, unlimited, access (it's not uncommon to see Dell and HP laptop users just outside the Apple store using the stores on open, high-speed, wireless network for free). Ask the Apple Geniuses what they are using as virus protection for so many computers on such a publicly open system. They will simply say "nothing" other than Mac's built-in firewall. This is exactly what our company does on a periodic basis. We take 5 minutes to chat with the lead "Genius" about their store's system. Our Macs are far from being publicly known or accessed, and If it's good enough for Apple's own computer's, it's good enough for ours. There is absolutely no reason to bring the fear and paranoia of Windows users into your own home and business if you are running on Macs. Go to your local Apple store and do whatever they do for protection... nothing! It Works!! [alert admin]

Symantec Norton Personal Firewall 3.0.3 (Mac OS 9, Mac OS X)
Do you want industry's best firewall for FREE?!
Do you want industry's best firewall for FREE?! In OS X, go to... - System Preferences - Click on "Sharing" - Click on the "Firewall" button (top middle) - Start your Firewall if it is off - Click on "Advanced..." (lower right) - Check "Enable Stealth Mode" to turn it on - Click on "OK" - Quit System Preferences Done! I work in the Apple computer industry and have heard nothing but complaints about Norton's software on Apple computers. They hog system resources and are infamous for causing all sorts of crashes and slowdowns. Your Mac already has an awesome dead-bolt on it's doors, no reason to use Norton Duct Tape as "added protection". [alert admin]

Stone Studio Widget 1.0 (Mac OS X)
A widget to launch aps seems like an unnecessarily complex solution to an easy problem. Isn't a widget to launch aps called the "Dock"? A widget should REDUCE steps in a process, not introduce additional actions from the user... unless you simply want to use a new feature as a free way to advertise. Merely because you can, doesn't mean it is a good idea. [alert admin]

GraphicConverter X 5.6 (Mac OS X)
GC handles many adjustments faster than Photoshop CS. Creating graphics for web sites, the JPEG preview in the Save dialog is awesome. I can accurately create the smallest file size without noticeable loss and without guessing. GC's browser and batch converter are quick and simple yet very full featured. With Photoshop CS for filters and touchups and GC for batch processing and resizing, I'm invincible! A huge THANKS to the staff of Graphic Converter. Your quality and value are only matched by Apple themselves. [alert admin]

No Gravity 1.98.r9 (Mac OS X)
I have no idea what they were thinking by releasing just 1/3rd of the program. The other 2 parts have to be downloaded from other sites and YOU have to decompress and place them all in the right spot and glue them all together. Once I realized that the developer wanted me to put his program together like a child's swing set on Xmas morning, I found it much easier and more exciting to just drag it to the trash and go read more about Tiger. Developer: When you have the COMPLETE program, ready to run, THEN release it and I might consider playing it. [alert admin]

X-Plane 8.1.1b1 (Mac OS X)
"Also, with the advent of x-plane Version 8, we now have have much higher detailed world scenery (this is very close to release)" The creators have rated themselves 5 stars!! The quote "...we have..." in addition to inside information about release features makes it obvious that this review (and probably the one preceding it) are written by the creators of the program and/or their friends. Such blatantly obvious biased comments have the exact opposite effect they had intended. X-plane is a very good program, but their marketing is very poor and in a feeble attempt to raise sales, they resort to these adolescent-like tactics of giving themselves 5 stars. Sad. Very sad and pathetic. [alert admin]

I re-entered my original license and upgrade codes, and it works fine. Perhaps they changed the way the software accesses their preference files. If you lost your registration information, you can email Lemke Software with your email address used to register it, and they will be glad to send you the codes. In my rare few dealings with Lemke Software, they have always been very friendly and prompt. Email them with your issues rather than blindly spouting…

- License Key - GC can be used for FREE and in its ENTIRETY without buying a license. Just wait a few seconds. It is the only full-featured free software that I know of. I use it a lot and didn't want to wait each time, so I registered it many years ago, and it is still a valid license. If you are a bit short on pocket change, keep it up and running and access…

Do you want industry's best firewall for FREE?!
The very best virus protection for Mac? ALL virus protection programs for Mac do only ONE thing; they check your email attachments for WINDOWS viruses so you don't spread them to your Windows usin' friends. As long as you don't forward any email that contains attachments, you will be fine. You don't need ANY programs to do that. Currently, and for the past 5 YEARS, there has been NO MAC VIRUSES! If and when a virus does get…

Never mind. Pi is located with the function keys on the right side, right above the "divided by" key. This is a non-standard and terrible place for it. But, yea, it's there.
