SneakPeek Pro 1.0 (Mac OS X)

Half way there...

InDesign files are very low resolution and only the first page is displayed in Quick look/Coverflow - but better than nothing! [alert admin]

PhotoInfo 2.0 (Mac OS X)

Pretty basic

PhotoInfo displays the EXIF data as advertised, but the description is misleading as editing is limited to date and time. There are similar applications which allow editing of all the shooting data (e.g. Reveal 1.1) so I'd dispute the "best in class" comment below. [alert admin]

Apple Java Update 1.4.2 Update 1 (Mac OS X)

Safari is the bottleneck

Try the JSbench test. http://www.24fun.com/downloadcenter/benchjs/benchjs.html Before this update 180 secs. After 160s. So, some improvement. Then I tried it for the first time with the Opera browser. 22 secs... Blimey... [alert admin]

Olympus Camedia Master 4.1 (Mac OS 9, Mac OS X)

Useless

Most of Camedia's features are already available in the far superior iPhoto however it is needed to join together photos taken using the panoramic mode on my Olympus mju300 camera. I have had no success whatsover, getting the same "out of memory" message as others have reported. Olympus technical support claim to be able to stitch up to five images but have not been able to tell me how they managed it. The Read Me file on the CD states that final panoramic image cannot be larger than 4096x4096 - this means I can't use more than two images in a panorama!! Absolutely useless - please don't even think wasting your money on the Pro version. Thankfully this software came free with my camera. [alert admin]

Woo hoo!

At last I no longer need a hefty book or a laptop nearby to look up film details - this seems very comprehensive and also allows you to keep your own lists, such as films you own on DVD, and edit the reviews! And the final cherry on the cake, it comes with a Mac OS X installer too. I'd add one more star if the films had UK ratings too. [alert admin]

Ditto Tice

Still in use for banking and F1.com for me. Safari otherwise as it's quicker. [alert admin]

Apple iTunes 4.0.1 (Mac OS X)

No internet sharing - no big deal

While I enjoyed the initial novelty of listening to other people's iTunes libraries over the internet, I always had "dropouts" every couple of minutes which made listening frustrating (this is on a decent broadband connection 50-60KB/sec). Not everyone's music was to my taste either. Sharing works perfectly over my wireless home network, it's great to choose from and listen to my own music collection in the garden on my iBook. And the tunes always suit my taste, after all I bought them in the first place! Fantastic software, beautifully intuitive, free and great fun too (I never realised how many songs I had with "love" in the title...) I've allowed space for one more star which I'll add when the cover art downloads automatically and songs and artists link straight to online info. [alert admin]

Apple iMovie 3.0.2 (Mac OS X)

Speed up effect…

(rabbit/turtle control) still doesn't work properly - video freezes then displays black screen. [alert admin]

How will the end of Internet Explorer Development affect you?

Think beyond the browser. Information delivered when and where you need it, but at your request. It's already happening and it'll get bigger. We're turning a corner and there'll be more to discuss beyond it...
