Toast Titanium 9.0 (Mac OS X)

So did they ever fix version 8's Leopard problems?

So did Roxio ever address the issue where Toast 8 (and Jam 6) would crash under Leopard at the end of a burn the the "bing" goes of at the end? (According to the crash reports, a "soundapp" issue.) Also, does Toast 9 print a PQ log, and can it do audio in pause for more than 20 seconds, like Jam used to? Without it, it is still not a professional replacement for Jam, which is no longer supported. [alert admin]

Fission 1.5.1 (Mac OS X)

What it does, it does right!

I've been using Fission for professionally archiving and re-posting streaming internet radio programming since it's release. Despite claims made below, all fully-featured sound file editors convert MP3s to PCM audio before editing and then must re-encode when editing is done. This results in a serious quality hit, which might be an acceptable trade off if you must process and change the signal- however, if all you want to do is edit MP3s with no change to the signal and no loss in quality, Fission is the only option. It's also a great option. It's been fast and reliable, Rogue Amoeba keeps refining it, support is top-notch and there has not yet been any charge for any upgrade. I think $30 is more than fair for this, however I only paid $18 because I am a user of Rogue Amoeba's Audio Hijack Pro. The only feature missing for me is to take multiple MP3s and simply concatenate them. That's the only reason I still have MP3 Trimmer on my computer. If you need to do full featured audio editing from a variety of formats using plug-ins, etc., there are many options for the Mac, both commercial and shareware. If you need lossless, easy MP3 editing, you need Fission. [alert admin]

Spamfire 2.30 (Mac OS X)

No updates, no fixes, no response

Save your money. Michael Herrick may have some personal problems as he states, but that does not excuse over 6 months of unupdated prepaid subscriptions or the many unaddressed bugs in his program (filters are basically useless). Better yet, put your money where it will do some good. I went back to Michael Tsai's Spam Sieve. What a difference. Adobe Soundbooth 1.0 (Mac OS X)

Gee, Adobe finally makes a Mac-Intel product!

Too bad it's not one that ANTBODY was asking for. Makes me wonder if CS3 will be Intel only when it finally gets released. [alert admin]

imeem 1.25.6 (Mac OS X)

not bad but playing catch-up

It's not a bad instant messenger, but it needs some serious work. hardly any preferences, and not even tabbed chat windows. Looks good and clean though... [alert admin]

CD Stack 1.0.2 (Mac OS X)

Not sure what this means...

Developer says, unlike other software that uses L.A.M.E. for the Mac, CD Stack does not require you to use iTunes. It completely stands alone. Don't know what they mean by that. I'm an audio pro, use at least 5 different audio products that use the L.A.M.E. engine for MP3 encoding, and not one of the "requires" you to use iTunes. Except, of course, iTunes. (No rating untilI try it...) [alert admin]

Fetch Art for iTunes 1.2 (Mac OS X)

Jeez, this thing is slow...

I've had it running for 24 hours a day for 3-1/2 days, and it's barely 3/4 of the way through my 6000 song collection. Seems to take a really long time to determine that the art for a song from the same album has already been downloaded... Plus it often grabs the wrong artist if there is a similar first name... Try It For Yourself

If I'm one of those last few- within 6 before your comment- be assured I am an audio professional who is a paying customer. I do NOT work for Rogue Amoeba. I do not post glowing reviews of products unless they earn it for me and my business, Please do not make assumptions about who I do and do not work for.

Yes. You cannot use a Soundsoap Pro updater on SoundSoap 2, it is a different program.

Try It For Yourself

I AM myself. I wrote what I wrote because it's true. Don't assume that a good review has to be coming from the company, it's insulting.

Garbage ---- BEWARE

Your machines got screwed up because you didn't read the instructions and find out what "sync" means. You can't just willy nilly transport everything in both home folders to other computers and back and expect them to work right. Sync up your DATA between machines, sure, but when you synched up the Library folders, which contain data peculiar to THAT personality on THAT machine, how can you expect anything but massive errors? I've used Sync Pro…
