browserTunes 0.2.2b (Mac OS X)

Nice Job

I actually found this while looking at what the iTunes remote options are for my wife when I, and my Salling Clicker-enabled phone, are nowhere to be found. After playing with more than a few remotes, I think this is the best of the bunch. I agree that having a way for the client to log off would be nice, and I really think the equalizer should have a presence (though I guess I could set equalizer presets in the ID3 tags... but I'm not sure many people would think of that). A sliding scale, or a pulldown menu, for the volume would also be nice so you have an idea as to what the present volume level is at, though it isn't pressing. Also not pressing, but would be nice, is a way for the end user to customize the graphics in the "Fancy" view. Good job! I look forward to checking out future releases [alert admin]

Quit whining

Really. Stop. The old iPods have different hardware that makes them unable to handle the new features. If you noticed, the minis (released a year ago) just recently got the new features to make them pretty much equal to the 4G. Would I like the new features on my 3G? Sure, of course I would. Are they showstoppers? Is adjusting the playback speed of an audiobook really a showstopper? I really do not think so. <p> The answer is this: eBay has been seeing inflated selling prices for iPods for well over a year now. Sell your old iPod and buy a new one if you really want the new features. meanwhile, for those of us who have to support multiple different iPod models in their household, this is useful. iTunes Dupes Barrier 1.0.0 (Mac OS X)

Great Idea...

...but it wants at least iTunes 4.0. I have iTunes 4.6 and this app is till telling me to download 4.0 or greater... [alert admin]

NetNewsWire 1.0.8 (Mac OS X)

I like it...

...but it is still missing features that, I think, would be easy to implement:

1) Allow posting to the iDisk, like iBlog does. I'm not a huge fan of iBlog, but it's the only means for my personal blog, hosted on my .Mac site, to work. If NNW could handle this, I would be more than willing to pay at the end of my trial.

2) Allow an optional note pad. I want to use SubEthaEdit for my notetaking. Someone else might want to use Stickies, BBEdit or MS Word, while another might want to use NNW's built-in pad... let us choose. I like the note pad idea... but not if I have to be tied to something I don't use for notes outside of NNW.

3) Blogger titles. Aside from my personal blog on my .Mac site, I also post frequently to a Blogger site. But I need to be able to use titles for the Blogger postings, and the NNW FAQ page states that the Blogger API doesn't allow for titles on posts, which is false and has been for a while. Perhaps Blogger is doing something weird in the background, but it does, even through its "Blog This!" tool, allow titles.

Granted: for what it does, it works and works well. However, I don't find it to be worth $40 to me until the three items above have been addressed. But, for you, it may be exactly what you are looking for. [alert admin]

Exactly what it says it is

This is an update to the installer, not to the iPod's firmware. The installer is now at 1.3.1 and the firmware is still at 1.3. For those who may have not updated their iPods (and, trust me, I know they're out there) this is important for them to use the version of iTunes that comes with Panther. Quit whining, everyone! For what it is - a bug fix for the installer - this is excellent and nice to see that Apple has not completely forgotten about those of us with older iPods (btw, you will probably never see the new firmware features on the old iPods for numerous, legit reasons concerning the OS and who made it) [alert admin]

ScummVM 0.5.1 (Mac OS X)

ScummVM Rocks!

This is great - I threw "Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis" in my G4 last night, pointed ScummVM at it and had a ton of fun! Thanks, folks...playing a game from 1992 never seemed so satisfying... [alert admin]
