OnyX 1.9.3 (Mac OS X)

satisfied user

Onyx is an excellent maintenance utility. It does pretty much everything that TinkerTool, Disk Utility (first aid), and the various Unix tools do. [alert admin]

syncOtunes 0.95 (Mac OS X)

sadly no longer works

This program WAS excellent, but has not been maintained and no longer works Tiger, Leopard, and MacIntels in general. I would recommend it for anyone still running Panther. [alert admin]

NoteTab Light 5.61 (Windows NT, Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows ME, Windows XP, Windows 2000)

excellent freeware

Very much like BBEdit Lite (or whatever it's called now) on Mac, a nice clean text editor with GREP. [alert admin]

Tank Repairman 1942 1.0 (Mac OS X)

yes, that's the whole joke

click repair, use the bathroom once in a while. ha ha. there you go; now you don't have to play it. [alert admin]

Galcon 1.3.2 (Mac OS X)

straightforward space conquest

Very simplistic rules, nothing fancy. Planets generate ships for their owners. Interface is intuitive and easy to use. Fun for an hour or two, but little replay value compared to others like Spaceward Ho. [alert admin]

OnyX 1.8.3 (Mac OS X)

very powerful, but not the friendliest

For a nerd like me, Onyx is an excellent choice. It gives you an absurd number of options. For a less technical Mac lover, I would recommend a simpler utility like Maintenance. [alert admin]

Maintenance 3.7 (Mac OS X)

developer web site is dead, download not working

Really unfortunate that this script is unavailable, because I want to recommend it to non-technical Mac owners who might not be able to handle more complex utilities like Onyx. [alert admin]

Privateer Gemini Gold 1.02a (Mac OS X)

not a bad game

This is a reskin of the VegaStrike engine. If you like VS and/or the original Privateer, you should like this. [alert admin]

HandBrake 0.9.0 (Mac OS X)

the best DVD ripper

excellent capabilities (if a bit too complex in the UI) and unbeatable price. [alert admin]

phone home, phone home, phone home

Definitely living up to your nickname, Mr Fringe. The "spyware" in question is actually Bonjour, Apple's own zero-configuration local networking suite. It has zero capability of connecting to anything "on the Internet".

Viruses and WINE

People are trying. So far several viruses have managed to open under WINE, and a few of them even copied files into the fake Windows directory, but none have successfully infected and taken over the PC.

What Kodak wants...

What they WANT is for you to use their online service. Whether you use iPhoto, EasyShare, or any other software doesn't really matter.

Make it Universal with lipo

Download the two binaries, then you can merge them with the "lipo" command line utility (part of the Apple Developer tools).

Great Application and only getting better!!!

You're right, just saying "random crashes and freezes" won't help. What will help is sending crash logs to the bug report forum on fire.sourceforge.net Every time a crash occurs, OS X displays a helpful prompt asking if you want to report the bug. One of the choices is to view the log. Copy, open URL, Paste.

You enjoy trolling!

If you have no need for a Windows emulator, why did you bother coming here and wasting people's time?

No mention of the Apple PowerCD

If it isn't in there, please contact Ian with the specs. I sent him a few corrections about the PCC clones and it was fixed in the next point version.

Stick with release versions, not betas

If you're having problems with stability, don't install alpha or beta versions (or especially nightly builds) of ANY software. Stick with solid point releases. 1.6 final should be done within a month.

Stupid Question

Dave is better for situations where you have a small number of Macs connecting to a large Windows network.
