Cocktail 3.8 (Mac OS X)
Network preferences corruption ![]()

To add my to my posting below, I came home today to find that I had no Internet connection. My kids had turned the Mac off, without shutting it down properly. We already lectured them on shutting down vs. hitting the Power switch, but it doesn't seem to stick... When I booted up again, I had no connection. Not thinking of *censored*tail, I went to my Network System Preferences, to diagnose the problem. I tried adding a new connection and after giving it a name and clicking on OK, I got the spinning wheel of death. I then remembered *censored*tail, so I went back to reset my settings to the defaults, and that took care of the problem. I, for one, I'm doing without *censored*tail for now. [alert admin]

Cocktail 3.8 (Mac OS X)
This one's a minor problem, but just in case you run into it, here it is. I modified my network settings with *censored*tail, to those prescribed for FIOS. After installing 10.4.10, my browsers wouldn't work. I don't have the exact text on me, but a message in Safari implied a buffer overflow. I went back to *censored*tail, reinstated the original settings and that took care of the problem. I set them back to FIOS, and it's working just fine. Just a heads up. [alert admin]

I've been using LimeWire for some time and version 4.10.9 has a problem with the data in the search results window. At first it seems nothing is there, until you mouse over it and click on the position where the first entry should be. You can then mouse up and down the list to have it show up, although it goes blank as the list is refreshed with new results. [alert admin]

FTP iCal calendars 2.0.2 (Mac OS X)
I downloaded what I expected to be version 2.0.2, but got version 2.0.1, which of course, asked me to download version 2.0.2. It also reminds you to upgrade to version 2.0. Who's on first? [alert admin]

This piece of **** crashed on the first run and trashed permissions on my home directory. I downloaded the updates and as I double-clicked on the first one (maceng.exe), it crashed, trashed the permissions again and then disappeared off the desktop. My kingdom for a copy of TaxCut!!! [alert admin]

Taco HTML Edit 1.7.0 (Mac OS X)
Still my favorite, but the Web site's been down for weeks
I was excited to see a new release show up on VT. I was hoping that meant the Web site was back up, but it isn't... [alert admin]

I'd been using Quickie and iPhoto, and neither of them comes even close to Galerie. This one's a keeper. [alert admin]

I had been looking for a utility to back up specific folders from one drive to another, and nothing I had found seemed to fit the bill. Having just learned about rsync (still getting my UNIX legs...), I read about RsyncX on www.macosxhints.com. This is just what I needed. Thanks! [alert admin]

Same here. After using Firefox for some time now, I'm so impressed with this version of Safari, that I'm making the swtich.
