Grammatica 6.0 (Mac OS X)
I used Grammatica to review the writing of a student whose native language is not English. Unfortunately, the program did not perform well. Over six pages of the student's work, the program missed many many errors, and it missed many problems of basic structure. It found no issues with the following passage: "Since sixteenth century, not only by the Catholics, who kept old authority, but also by the Protestants, who encouraged new authority, persecuted and sometimes executed the Anabaptist. The shaping of the Lutheran or Swiss Protestant churches with the support of state and lords brought some followers the sense of the betrayal that compromised the spiritual reform with the secular power." The one passage it flagged as an error -- an agreement fault -- was, in fact, correct. [alert admin]

Mozilla Firefox 0.9.1 (Mac OS X)
Lost scroll bar ... and other weirdness
Yes ... I would agree that something doesn't seem quite right ... feels clunky. Downloaded 9.1 and installed Cute Theme ... Lost r-hand scroll bar. Seems to be true of all the themes I tried. This was not a problem with .8. Lots of spinning beach balls, lots of delays while scrolling pages. Apparently, some page graphics cause .9 to choke?? Camino now much much faster. [alert admin]

ZMacSync 1.0a3 (Mac OS X)
Would LOVE to see this application mature. The Zaurus is a wonderful too ... in so many ways an excellent compliment to the Mac. I would probably go Zaurus, if this were fully functional. [alert admin]

GyazMail 1.2.0 (Mac OS X)
To enable "candystriping" go to Preferences/Fonts&Colors/Folder List or Message List and uncheck "Background color." [alert admin]

GyazMail 1.2.0 (Mac OS X)
I'm seeing a number of things that confuse me. -- on first installation -- using the link from VT -- Gyaz appeared as 1.1.X in Miscelaneous/Select Default email reader. I fresh install from GM's site and a logout/in solved this problem. -- I too cannot find a way to create a single in-box, though this is less important to me. -- I have not yet found the way to "candystripe" folder or message lists. -- Managing multiple "names and email addresses ... within a single account (Account preferences)" is interesting. Going to Preferences/Accounts/Information and entering multiple names, separated by a comma passes these names to your new message window and allows you to select them via a small double arrow to the right hand side of the screen. Handy ... but not intuitive. Some of my feeling is that it is a wonderful new version ... that would be helped by clearer documentation. [alert admin]

Mellel 1.7.5 (Mac OS X)
Yes ... I am very impressed and would make the change myself, but I edit text for academic writers and really need some form of tracking. Word's track changes function is the defacto standard among the people I work with ... and it makes my job easier. This appears to be missing in Mellel. [alert admin]

GNUMail.app 1.1.2 (Mac OS X)
Installed yesterday looking for another IMAP client. (I've use and GYAZ and been pretty satisfied for some time now.) Here are some quick comments. They may be off, but I treated this pretty much like a complete newbie who wanted to get up and running quickly. -- Apparently a single cllick selects a mailbox. Wasn't able to tell. A slow response made it difficult to tell. -- It feels like there is no default caching of headers. Again, slow. -- Moved email from IMAP mailbox to local folder ... and the message simply disappeared. Not in trash. Clicked on folder and the header on main window says "no window selected." -- SMTP config is difficult. Must "disconnect" from server to edit account. -- No help yet Feels like this is not yet ready for use. Too bad. [alert admin]

My third try ... and I'm confused ![]()

This is the third time I've installed and tried AC and I can see how people would find it useful. But for me ... I am just confused. Very versatile, very powerful ... but just too hard to make a basic appointment entry for "tomorrow at 10:00." Easy to get the wrong day ... error messages tell me I've completed fields incorrectly, lots of hand entry of times, tried to launch help and nothing came up. Probably best for people who organize by keeping lists ... and this is not my style. Not really a datebook, unless I am missing something. Am I? Confused/disappointed. I'd love a simple Mac calendar ... but one with more functionality than iCal. [alert admin]

DayChaser 1.0.4 (Mac OS X)
Two things I can't tell from the demo make me reluctant to go ahead. I like the simplicity, but: -- I would like to see how a week view prints. Will it -- like iCal -- truncate the event, leaving me only with times and no labels? No week printing in demo. -- Can I modify the color scheme? Seem only to be able to change month view in preferences. And once I have done that I cannot change back. Cannot change day or week view. Like the simplicity of scheduled events. Could be a good choice. Tired of iCal's print limitations and I don't need all of the bloat of some other apps. [alert admin]

FWIW ... I have been a long time user of GM and have crashed on occasion. Perhaps 2 or 3 times in the last year+. I've seen any index corruption ... but who knows?

Have you considered using rules to make this happen ... filtering "All Messages" or by "Account" to deposit all the messages in a single inbox? Cheers
