Although I appreciate software designers and the need to create free and for-cost version of their software, I am not too enthused when they quietly remove functionality in the free version, yet still tout it as they had before! In this case, I upgraded from version 1.51 to 1.7.9 and now I cannot scan network folders at all. [alert admin]

I agree, don't download it!!!! ![]()

The software's description says that it removes the malware, but it does not. If the scanner is separate from the tool that does the protection, it seems like a very misleading product, disseminated in such a way as to lure Versiontracker users. [alert admin]

Another Case of Trialware Being Passed as Freeware!!!!! ![]()

This is trialware -- not freeware. The client application is freeware but is not the one being downloaded here. Regardless, the free client version is useless without the purchased server version anyway. [alert admin]

xplorer2 1.6.0.1 (Windows NT, Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows ME, Windows XP, Windows 2000)
Although the differences are well-dicumented at their web site, the lite version is severely crippled compared to the full version. Unfortunately, they do not remove the crippled features from the menus so the user of the lite version's interface is actually less usable because of the clutter. It is to the extent that I am uninstalling the app rather than try it out. [alert admin]

I am also pretty upset that trialware is being labeled (passed off) as freeware. I would not have even bothered testing this app if I had known that it wasn't freeware or crippleware but actually trialware. [alert admin]

I followed the link to downlaod and install the software from Version Tracker. In addition to a DVD player, four unique installations for spyware and adware were made without informing me. Each had to be separately uninstalled, and you had to be connected to the Internet to remove them! Moreover, the uninstalls were all conveniently worded in the negative such that many users would fail to uninstall the software. Even after installing all of the components and the main component (which I never even got to try out!), both Spybot and Adaware found pieces of the spyware still installed and/or running. During the uninstallation, you lose network settings and connection, probably because the authors figured if you learn that the software is bad, you deserve to have havoc unleashed on your computer for doing it. Why do you think Mike124 can't read? The whole idea behind versiontracker is that one can get information about an app and download it right then -- all from versiontracker. The *only* way a versiontracker user would learn that ServersCheck is actually wrongly categorized (and maybe fraudulently done) is by *optionally* going to the developer's web site. Yes, the foul goes to versiontracker for not ensuring that developers follow the right path.…

P.S. Evidently, it didn't completely kill my network connection on the PC. Instead, it has opened up Ports 110 and 25 and is now sending out tons of emails. The network admin has shut donw my port until I can get my machine cleaned.
