Mavis Beacon Teaches Typing 2009 (Mac OS X)
If you are running Snow Leopard and a 30" Monitor - Beware! ![]()

I returned to this programme after several years (since OS 9) because it was on special and I used to like it so much. I have a 30" monitor on my Mac Pro running 10.6.1 and as soon as I booted the programme, it took over the whole screen, no window size - nothing. OK I could put up with huge letters and graphics but wait there's more. As soon as the programme quits and it returns the Display back to 2560 x 1600 resolution, the whole screen is in disarray - window sizes changed, positions of icons etc all over the place. Whilst the programme itself may be good, the programming behind it is absolutely amateurish. There is no choice of window size, choice of resolution, nothing. If they had offered a demo and I would have seen thisawefull interface I would not have purchased it, even at the special price of US$17.99. [alert admin]

MainMenu 2.0.3 (Mac OS X)
Trying to be objective here. MainMenu was free for so long, when the then author could have been justified in charging a fee. Obviously the new owners purchased it to make a killing. However, by charging $20 they are in danger of killing it altogether. I would be willing to pay $10 based on shareware fee of othe utilities (some of which are STILL free). However, its unique in that its the only menu based application. The utility has changed very little after changing hands and therefore I would respectfully suggest that a touch of greed has entered in here. My oft quoted response is "Halve the price, triple the profit". At $20 I would suggest that all those (or nearly all) who enjoyed the free app are continuing to do so. A respectful wake up call to the new owners - revive the patient before it dies on you. There is a fine line between honest profit and outright greed - step back a little. Even try a special for a month at say$5 and guage the response from thee? [alert admin]

Little Snitch 2.2 (Mac OS X)
When new connections are asked for it takes minutes for the rule to take effect and the allow changes padlock keeps locking itself after being unlocked. This is the first time I've had trouble with this application ever. Mac Pro 10.6.1 10Gb RAM [alert admin]

Parallels Desktop 4.0 Build 3846 (Mac OS X)
Downloaded the latest iteration but the installer freaked out under 10.6.1. Gives a new meaning to a parallel universe! [alert admin]

SuperCal 1.1.4 (Mac OS 9, Mac OS X)
A Plea to bring this up to date
What an excellent piece of calibration software. What a shame the developer hasn't updated it for Leopard. I wonder if he/shi is still around and could be persuaded to update thei EXCELLENT application? [alert admin]

Flagit! 1.2b (Mac OS X)
Flagit is a great little App which I was happy to buy after the trial period expired. The author is very quick to communicate. HOWEVER - I have a problem whereby "As completed" and "Clear Flags" stay greyed out. Whether this is a result of my using Spamsieve (I can't see how, though) or some other factor, I don't know. What I do know is that this wonderful little app, which should be part of Apple Mail IMHO, has a flaw, which the author, by his own admission will be fixed but he can't say when. For me it has spoiled the basic idea behind Flagit. I hope the author can sort it out sooner rather than later. [alert admin]

In ticking the "No" recommend button I do so with reluctance and in the hope that the author will get A into G & fix the problem. [alert admin]

PDFpen 3.4.2 (Mac OS X)
I have just received a special offer from SmithMicro for this product. Is it the same or are they selling a competing product by the same name? [alert admin]

Unsanity's communication policy :-(
I'm learning to live without Unsanity. Perhaps when enough people do the same they will realise that they are not Godlike Indispensible people and when the money stops rolling in they will either give up or get their conceited Donkeys into gear. (Donkey aka Ass)

Please engage brain before opening mouth. We all know that hardware gets redundant at the speed of light and that Mikrotek have always lacked support for a large number of their scanners. Scanners are so cheap these days that surely the best answer is not to go hypercritical of a dedicated shareware author but to simply upgrade your equipment to a scanner that works (eg Canon). Put yourself in his position. Manufacturers are loth to…

Why don't you? You seem so clever with your words! Put your money where your mouth is an do something original yourself. B for beta is at the beginning of the alphabet so even a simpleton like you should be able to understand what that means. Thoughtless commentaries by equally thoughtless people can cause great harm. If you don't like it, don't use it but most of all don't criticise without giving reasoned and…

Perhaps its the singer not the song? Pages certainly opens appleworks files and is excellent value for money for middle of the road desktop publishing etc. Try again and also try not to give pontificating comments unless you have thoroughly researched first. Good luck!

Excellent, but price is too high.
A shame the developer hasn't heard of "Halve the price, triple the profit"
