Tinderbox 4.6.1 (Mac OS X)
Great upgrade: much improved speed, flexibility ![]()

If you've held off on updating for a while, this version gives you several good reasons to take the plunge, including much improved speed and some fine-tuning in the agent and rule syntax. And given the current macroeconomic situation, this is a great opportunity to help your friendly neighborhood artisanal software designer weather the storm! [alert admin]

Change name of downloaded file for convenience' sake
I'd recommend changing the name of the tar'ed file to something other than "Binary.tar", just for sake of convenience... [alert admin]

Calq 1.3 (Mac OS X)
Something's ain't right with v 1.3...
When I launch the app, I get a message indicating that the pref window will open upon first launch allowing me to set my hotkey combo; however, nothing happens. As the previous poster alluded to, the Read Me files are aliases, which, when clicked, don't open anything. Somethin' ain't right... [alert admin]

Life Balance 3.2.6 (Mac OS X)
Someday, we'll see a Life Balance for Mac update that actually adds functionality and usability to the app, like the ability to change font size or some scripting support. Instead, we get "Made the dock icon bounce under Mac OS X when the application is not in the front and the user attempts to quit with unsaved changes." It seems extraordinary that coding resources would be spent on this sort of nonsense while bona fide functionality languishes in the corner. I'm still hoping for change, but I'm no longer holding my breath... [alert admin]

With all due respect, if you write the following: "Without having to tag everything first . .or enter meta data...", it betrays a lack of understanding of one of Tinderbox's primary strengths, which is to give users the ability and the freedom to create their own tags and build their own metadata models. I think DevonThink and DevonNote (and DevonAgent, for that matter) are fine products, but they certainly don't replicate the functionality of Tinderbox. [alert admin]

OmniOutliner 3.0 beta 4 (Mac OS X)
What is it about Notebook and Notetaker users?
Why are they so friggin' defensive about their choice in apps? Why do they feel the need to prance around in forums for other products and talk about how great their choice is? Weird... In any event, the assertion that almost everything in OmniOutliner has been in Notebook for a year is a crack-induced fantasy. One word: columns (which OmniOutliner has had for years, I might add). And that's just the beginning. Sheesh... [alert admin]

Tinderbox 2.0 (Mac OS 9, Mac OS X)
For those who have been a bit daunted by Tinderbox's price tag, there's a fairly substantial sale going on right now at Eastgate-- $50 off the regular price of $145. Link: http://www.eastgate.com/Special.html Got me off the fence... [alert admin]

2.1.1 does not allow OS X login
Running 10.5.7 and 2.1.3. Seeing the identical spinning beachball after the login screen appears. So, not resolved.

LOL!!! I can't even begin to describe the functionality gap between Yojimbo and info.xhead :-) Honestly, info.xhead is basically Apple's Address Book with password protection. Go see for yourself: <http://www.xheadsoftware.com/info_xhead.asp> Looks like a good app, but it ain't no Yojimbo (or Mori or DevonThink or StickyBrain...)

Is there ever a stable version of this product?
Are you having specific issues that lead you to believe that the product isn't stable? If not, then the specific bugfixes are irrelevant to you-- don't sweat it. If so, then you should be pleased that the developer is working so hard to resolve the issues you are experiencing.

Except that it's not the most accurate :-) Perhaps the best example is found in the 23rd Psalm. The KJV: "Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death..." REB: "Even were I to walk through a valley of deepest darkness..." The KJV sounds all mysterious and portentious, but it's not a correct translation of the Hebrew. Unfortunate, but true. The Revised English Bible and the Revised Standard Version are much more true to…
