I Can Animate 1.0 (Mac OS X)

Feeble

Can't find most features mentioned because this download does not let me save and I don't have the time to experiment if I already know that the final result will be a total loss. From what I did see I'm not impressed. The painting is lame because it doesn't let you paint free hand even though the tool claims to be. The lines are rendered by the software instead of by me. Starting a new frame does not show the previous one underneath in this version. If that's only for the registered version it's kinda stupid because I need to see how something like this works before I would consider buying it. Haven't even tried to import existing images because I can do that in Imageready, Gif Animator or I movie already. Not the new DeLuxePaint (still waiting for something like that) by far. Sorry. Apple Backup 2.0.2 (Mac OS X)

Highly annoying

Never ever came across anything as user-unfriendly on any mac before. Backup doesn't tell me what it needs for it to do the job, until it gets there and then it just leaves you hangin'. Tried to copy my work station (about 45 Gb used of 80 Gb) to a firewire removable harddisk of the same size (give or take a couple of bytes) Don't want the empty space copied of course, but it seems that Backup can only make a perfect clone and copies the empty space perfectly. (It never told me about that though) Therefore, the destination harddisk probably needs to be of the exact same size as the target disk. How inconvenient. Even though the removable is 80 Gb as is the workstation's harddisk, they are not exactly the same size when you look at the Finder-info. There's about 2 Gb difference. So, Backup tells me it can't make the backup because there's not enough space available. In my view there is plenty space. Copying your entire Harddisk contents to a newer Mac is a walk in the park. I did that last year. Within hours I see my G4 cloned to my G5 (both separate OSX of course) and they work perfectly and look and act exactly the same. The G5 being quicker at it, of course...;) Never any dialogue windows about differences in disks. Took only about an hour or two maybe. Impressive. But Backup can't do that (Yet I want that). I don't need a perfect copy of empty space, I need a perfect copy of everything in perfect working order so that it can take over immediately from my current harddrive when it would crash fatally. Nothing less. And that's what I expect to get when the application is called Backup. [alert admin]

HP Scanjet 3500c series 5.5.6 (Mac OS 9, Mac OS X)

HP scanner software

Just found out that when Photoshop seems to freeze on the scan (it does with my sc 3970 in Panther as well) and you click on the desktop, the scanned image appears suddenly. And when you click on that, you'll return to Photoshop again where the picture actually is. It may help you not to get too frustrated:-) This may work for other scanners too. I found this purely by accident. I find the HP software highly insuffient when I compare it to my old UMAX stuff, by the way. Quite user-unfriendly and not thought through. [alert admin]
