SOHO Organizer 8.06 (Mac OS X)
Please DISREGARD my prior review...major bugs cripple this program ![]()

I need to learn to be patient prior to posting a software review. SOHO Organizer has become unusable: it freezes when I try to open up June 2009 in the month view (???). I tried this program on 3 separate computers and get the same weird behavior. I deleted all the SOHO files, reinstalled it, reset the sync, but to no avail. This is simply a very buggy program that should never have been released in its current state. Sorry for the prior glowing review, if I could delete it I would, but Versiontracker provides no way to alter or delete reviews once posted. I'll contact the developers and see if they can offer a solution. [alert admin]

SOHO Organizer 8.06 (Mac OS X)
This version works great, actually:-) I switched from iCal. ![]()

Charles' review expresses alot of frustration so I'm mystified why this version of Organizer works so well for me. I'm using MobileMe to Sync between my calendars computers, but any changes I make to iCal or SOHO Organizer are made almost instantaneously between the two programs on the same machine. The only Sync bug I found so far is that calendar color changes made in Organizer do not Sync to iCal, though it's fine in the other direction. Data syncs fine in both directions. I decided to switch over to SOHO Organizer from iCal after using iCal for about 2 years. Prior to that I used Chronos' Personal Organizer (v4) for over 5 years. Chronos gave me alot of grief with poor syncing with my old Palm PDA's but eventually they worked out the bugs. So, why did I switch from iCal now? My reasons may seem trivial but when you rely on a scheduling program to map your work life sometimes even small improvements are actually huge. First, SOHO Organizer has a LIST VIEW!! How basic is this, folks?? Come on, Apple...you even have a list view on the iPhone / iPod Touch Calendar! I can find past events so much more easily in a list view, and find that old data that I need to make a quick decision for an upcoming event. Another seemingly insignificant but ESSENTIAL feature in protecting your important event data: CONFIRM DELETE! Organizer asks you "Are you sure..." after you hit the delete key. iCal? Not a peep. Even dragging an event in Organizer at least provides a visual indicator that you're making an important action: it brings up a big clock icon at the curser to show you that you're dragging an event and thus making a scheduling change. iCal, on the other hand, gives you NO visual feedback so accidently dragging an event to another day or time is dangerously too easy in iCal. [This very mishap nearly cost me a job and many hundreds of dollars: I got a call from one of my clients asking me "Where the hell are you" ...I showed up very late and embarrassed. Sure enough, I had accidently grabbed onto their scheduled event in iCal's Day View and moved it ever so slightly to an hour later than planned]. I'm not reviewing all the features this program offers over other calendar apps but these are my reasons to switch. My upgrade price from their old version 4 was $50 and well worth it to me. Frankly, Chronos' $100 price is going to scare away most users in the market for a good calendar alternative to iCal, which even with these faults is a darn good calendar app for most people. Reduce the price to a flat $50 for everyone and sales would probably quadruple. Regardless, highly recommended. [alert admin]

iSnip 1.4 (Mac OS X)
In case anyone cares, there's another program that's very similar to iSnip and works great (I'm using 10.6.1): ClipMenu. Best of all, it's FREE. iSnip is dead, long live ClipMenu. [alert admin]

Voila 2.0 (Mac OS X)
Excellent stuff! Main window needs resizable elements...
I'd like to use this program on my Dell mini 9 (hackentosh) but the Voila's window gets cropped. It'd be nice to be able to resize the window or some of its sections for use with Netbooks. Still testing this app out but so far it's working amazingly well...a big step up from Snapz Pro. [alert admin]

NeatWorks 2.0.4 (Mac OS X)

I read some reviews elsewhere and thought NeatWorks would offer a UI improvement over ReceiptWallet. What a mistake. NeatWorks 2.0.4 has some bugs and poorly implemented features. I'm sticking with ReceiptWallet from here on out. Here's what I've discovered after only 1/2 hour of use: 1) The software will erratically loose connection to my Fujitsu S300M scanner for no apparent reason, forcing me to go the "Fujitsu ScanSnap Settings" and then press that "Start ScanSnap Manager" button to get it working again. I never had this problem with my previous receipt program, ReceiptWallet. This is repeatable even after quitting and restarting the program a number of times. 2) The visible text fields to the right of the previewed image varies with each scanned item, forcing me to customize the field selections per item (!!). For instance, I have to manually add the "Category" field to every item scanned. This renders the software completely impractical and unusable. 3) I cannot uncheck any of the "Document Fields" items in that pop up list (to the upper right portion of the window); they'll are grayed-out and checked by default. Obviously I need to customize those visible fields to my own needs. 4) I can't find a way to apply specific parameters to a newly created Smart Folder. I used Smart Folders constantly in ReceiptWallet which, when double-clicked, allows for very specific parameters to be set for each Smart Folder (such as specific text in a specific custom field). If you're not very fussy maybe this software will work for you, but it has some real faults. [alert admin]

iClipboard 2.0 (Mac OS X)
I'm still using the best clipboard manager ever made for the Mac: iSnip. Unfortunately it hasn't been updated for ages and, though it's still working for me on 10.5.6 it doesn't work for many others (the reason: you have to have content in iSnip's "History" or it'll crash). iClipboard is a pretty good competing app, but unlike iSnip, here's no way to re-order saved / often-used clippings. I tried to send this feature suggestion to Chronos but there's no quick and easy feedback link on their website, which is really lame. [alert admin]

Smart Scroll 2.8.7 (Mac OS X)
Grab Scroll does not work with Firefox 3.0.4
Grab Scroll does not work with Firefox 3.0.4. I have this setting: checked "Grab Scroll with:" and have selected "Keyboard + Primary Button" and Shift / tap Option selected. Any key combination option does not work. I did a fresh install of Firefox and it still doesn't work. [alert admin]

Suitcase Fusion 2.0 (Mac OS X)
Font auto-activation works with well with Leopard ![]()

I have hoped to avoid replacing FontAgent Pro with another font manager app but I had no choice: FontAgent Pro's auto-activation with Leopard still does not work. Here's a note from Insider Software's website: "Please note that FontAgent Pro's preference to enable auto-activation is not recognized by applications running in Leopard that do not have FontAgent Pro auto-activation plug-ins or XTensions." Yet they STILL do not offer updated plugins for Adobe CS3 apps even as CS4 is being released. Suitcase fusion's auto font activation works great with Photoshop CS3 and, so far, with all of my other designated apps. The only feature I miss from FontAgent Pro's is the "WYSIWYG" option to display the font name in it's own typeface to quickly scan my font collections's lists for the appropriate font. Suitcase Fusion has an adequate font preview UI, but nothing great. SF also allows you to temporarily enable specific fonts, which is a great feature. Importing over 9,000 fonts into SF's "Vault" was completed in under 15 minutes and was problem free. Overall, a stable app that I'd recommend, though the price is certainly steep. [alert admin]

Pando 2.1.5.5 (Mac OS X)
First it crashed repeatedly when downloading a file. I trashed the Pando preference file, which at least stopped the crashing. Now the download just stalls. This is miserable software. [alert admin]

oops, forgot to mention that ClipMenu doesn't seem to be listed with VersionTracker, but it's listed with MacUpdate, so go there to get it.

You really should move on over to Firefox 3. It's very stable, and with a few plugins, you have a browser that's vastly superior compared to Safari. I also used Saft with Safari a couple of years ago and it was too painful to deal with.

So I must assume to be consistent in your life you personally give your labor/products away for free by day and then scavenge the garbage cans for food by night. Your thinking is neither rational or original, simply boring. Pathetic how original thinkers create something of value only to have cheap bast---d bottom feeders like you come along hoping to scavenge it for free.

Ridiculous. You obviously enjoy using this program yet you still want it for free. How many songs do you have on your hard drive for FREE because of this program? The $15 shareware fee is clearly justified for the benefits provided. As far as the name is concerned...what a trivial issue!
