Machinarium 1.0 (Mac OS X)
Not a patch on "Samarost." Bland music - game too complicated, too obtuse. We all empathised with the little guy and his dog; hard to that with a tin can. Can see where these guys are coming from and their talent is awesome - but the marketing is flawed and the game depressing. [alert admin]

Flux 2.33 (Mac OS X)
It might be easier to evaluate v.2 if the user manual bore more resemblance to the app! [alert admin]

Mozilla Thunderbird 2.0.0.23 (Mac OS X)
Without the ability directly to import Apple's 'Address Book' or mail/settings from 'Mail,' Thunderbird has too big an overhead to make it worth trying. Shame - it seems capable. [alert admin]

Apple Mac OS X 10.5.7 (Mac OS X)
This piece of business has cost me an entire morning's work... Install > restart > blue screen, with cursor gently disappearing and reappearing every 30 secs. This continued for about 30mins, until I rebooted to a back-up disk. Tests with Disk Utility, TechTool and Disk Warrior found nothing. Tried 10.7 HD start again - same result. In the end I had to replace it with the backup. Heads up, Apple! - we expect better than this after 25 years of loyalty, faithfully following you through the PC wilderness. [alert admin]

PowerMail 6.0.2 (Mac OS X)
I've used PowerMail since they EOL'ed 'Emailer' - that's a good few years. But I've now had to walk away from it, in favour of Apple's 'Mail.' I've gotten so tired of the length of time PowerMail takes to load, patchy IMAP support, vestigial HTML support (yes, I prefer plain text, too - but the times they are a' changing), the weird attempts at synchronization with Apple's 'Address Book' and the inadequate user guide. This email client used to rock - and seems still to be only one capable of using a single database for multiple users. The overhead just got too high - sorry guys. [alert admin]

SpyMe 2.5 (Mac OS X)
An attractive and simple interface but the set-up is still waaaaay too complicated for mere mortals - you'll need a degree in computer science to configure ports, DNS servers, etc! Things like creating a dynamic DNS name and establishing a spare port number should be automatic and built-in. [alert admin]

iKey 2.3.2 (Mac OS X)
Used to use this app a lot but found my reg key didn't work with the latest version, so I asked the developer for help via their web site. That was a month ago - so far, no response. [alert admin]

Default Folder X 4.0 (Mac OS X)
First, in my experience of them over the years, StClair are nice people with well thought-out products and I don't think their upgrade fees are at all unreasonable. But who on earth asked them to redesign the interface of DefaultFolderX? - customers? - I don't think so. It is truly awful - both ugly and unstable. (The reviewer who said "overbearing" hit the jackpot.) Two weeks of this and I was back on Seroxat®! It's v3.0.6 for me, folks. [alert admin]

Keep It Together 1.3 (Mac OS X)
This from the developer's BLOG this morning: "Oops, there was a small problem in KIT 1.3 where it may not launch properly. Another version is uploaded now that should fix this - click to download. It only happens if you’re missing the “PDF Services” folder in your Library folder." . . . so it wasn't just me, then. [alert admin]

Keep It Together 1.3 (Mac OS X)
Didn't work for me - always quit about 2 seconds after the main window loaded, despite re-installs, restarts, repaired permissions, directory, etc. - tried everything. Pity, looks like a good app. [alert admin]

Err.... think you may have missed the point here. Spam usually doesn't come from the sender it claims to - not even unwittingly. It comes from somewhere else entirely that's just using their address.

Those 'arrogant' ad agencies own the copyright in their stuff, not the client and certainly not you. It's often the only leverage they have to get their bills paid. Believe me, there are any number of morally bankrupt clients who'll lie and cheat to get work for nothing - and using people with attitudes like yours is just one way. If you want to live in the jungle to get a quick buck, don't shout 'foul!'…

Junk, easily fooled by forged headers, reports to wrong places.
No, I don't think so . . . this 'curse' is largely the result of indolent and irresponsible ISPs, who are the only link in the chain able effectively to stop the abuse. If they would pay more attention to the activities of their customers, instead of simply 'taking the money and running,' the problem could be reduced substantially or eliminated relatively quickly, to the ultimate benefit and profit of all. Apps like Sp@mX currently…
