Default Folder X 4.0 (Mac OS X)
First, in my experience of them over the years, StClair are nice people with well thought-out products and I don't think their upgrade fees are at all unreasonable. But who on earth asked them to redesign the interface of DefaultFolderX? - customers? - I don't think so. It is truly awful - both ugly and unstable. (The reviewer who said "overbearing" hit the jackpot.) Two weeks of this and I was back on Seroxat®! It's v3.0.6 for me, folks. [alert admin]

Keep It Together 1.3 (Mac OS X)
This from the developer's BLOG this morning: "Oops, there was a small problem in KIT 1.3 where it may not launch properly. Another version is uploaded now that should fix this - click to download. It only happens if you’re missing the “PDF Services” folder in your Library folder." . . . so it wasn't just me, then. [alert admin]

Keep It Together 1.3 (Mac OS X)
Didn't work for me - always quit about 2 seconds after the main window loaded, despite re-installs, restarts, repaired permissions, directory, etc. - tried everything. Pity, looks like a good app. [alert admin]

Hogwasher 4.3 (Mac OS X)
Tried it because everyone says it's a good newsreader. After a day of studying the user guide and vainly trying to make it work, I reluctantly trashed it; seems one needs a degree in Zen. And who ever asked them for an e-mail client!? Nice interface, though. Ah well, back to Thoth. [alert admin]

Mail Archiver X 1.5b4 (Mac OS X)
Would have more demand if it also worked with PowerMail. [alert admin]

CharView 3.3 (Mac OS X)
Used this for half a day - looked like a nice alternative for PopChar Pro. . . until the shareware reminder started popping-up every 30 seconds! Sorry, guys - it became so irritating, I trashed it. [alert admin]

GrabbyWindow 2.0.1 (Mac OS 9)
like having a floating Finder on demand. Well thought-out and presented but doesn't support multiple screens yet and cannot adopt user-modified finder label preferences - when it does, 5 stars! [alert admin]

TimeSlice 2.2.4 (Mac OS 9, Mac OS X)
brilliant app as Bill Modesit originally wrote it, for Maui Software (I still prefer and use v1.8) - what a pity he sold it! The upgrade price is utterly outrageous - farewell TimeSlice, goodbye C&G.f [alert admin]

Those 'arrogant' ad agencies own the copyright in their stuff, not the client and certainly not you. It's often the only leverage they have to get their bills paid. Believe me, there are any number of morally bankrupt clients who'll lie and cheat to get work for nothing - and using people with attitudes like yours is just one way. If you want to live in the jungle to get a quick buck, don't shout 'foul!'…

No, I don't think so . . . this 'curse' is largely the result of indolent and irresponsible ISPs, who are the only link in the chain able effectively to stop the abuse. If they would pay more attention to the activities of their customers, instead of simply 'taking the money and running,' the problem could be reduced substantially or eliminated relatively quickly, to the ultimate benefit and profit of all. Apps like Sp@mX currently…
