Apple HP Printer Driver 2.2 (Mac OS X)

Breaks scanner on AIO products

I'm using an HP Protoxpart C6180, and after installing this upgrade, the scanner function does no longer work. I reverted to HP_Installer_PSC6100_v9.7.1 from HP and works as expected [alert admin]

Logitech Harmony Remote 7.5.0 (Mac OS X)

Incompatible with Java 6 (64-bit)

For all of you that get a black screen when starting this app, the issue also happens with the previous version; at least to me. This application uses Java and it's not compatible with Java 6 (64-bit for Intel Mac). A workaround is to open Applications -> Utilities -> Java -> Java Preferences and make J2SE 5.0 the default Java VM for both applications and web pages. I had other Java apps behave strangely on Java SE6. There are several changes on this release and older java apps might no longer work. This is a general issue with Java 6 and it's not specific to the Apple port. [alert admin]

StuffIt Expander 12.0.2 (Mac OS X)

Great decompression

I don't use Stuffit, but I do use Stuffit Expanded quite a bit. Like OSX's own compression tool, is very unobtrusive. It launches itself when needed and quits right after. Although I do not run into .sit files too often anymore, it's great for uncompressing .rar files I often get from Windows users. .rar files seem quite popular abroad. [alert admin]

Logitech Control Center 2.2.2 (Mac OS X)

Does not work with MX310 Mouse

LCC 2.2.2 does not work with MX310 mouse. It seems to recognize the device, but there is no icon to click on to configure it, just the name, which is not clickable. Had to go back to 2.1.4 which works OK for me. As another reviewer said, all settings were lost, but I tried several upgrade/uninstall/reinstall cycles to see if it would work. [alert admin]

GameRanger 4.6.2 (Mac OS X)

Crashes HP network printers

When this program starts, it crashes HP network printers. For some reason, when GameRanger starts, it sends UPnP SSDP broadcasts that crashes my HP PhotoSmart C6180 printer, which is connected via Ethernet. IT seems that the SSDP packets might be malformed making the printer crash. [alert admin]

iStumbler 96 (Mac OS X)

Great program, some small issues

First of all, this is a great program. Using modules is a great idea. - Cosmetically, I like the old icon better. It gives the idea of a networking tool. The swiss knife icon is way too generic - It would be great to include for example, a user-editable XML file containing vendor codes, lime MacStumbler does (Vendor codes are the first 3 bytes on a MAC Address). - It has two help items on its application menu. - We're still waiting for the GPS plugin to be available :) - There is a small bug though. I have a Roku Soundbridge that advertises Telnet through Bonjour and uses port 4444. Terminal is able to telnet into the device on port 4444 by Bonjour. iStumber fails to detect non-standard ports. In this particular case, the URL it creates is telnet://SoundBridge.local./, when it should be telnet://SoundBridge.local.:4444/ -- The Bonjour plugin seems unable to discover non-standard ports for any of the bonjour services published. Zinio 2.0 (Mac OS X)

Installation problems

If you cannot install this program, version 2.0 is very buggy. Go to the manufacturer's web site and download version 2.1.4030 (or newer). The installer will try to install or upgrade but might fail without doing anything. This is a small bug in the way the application is packaged (they should use images, not sit files IMHO). The way to fix it is this: - Open the terminal - cd ~/Desktop/ZinioWebInstall.pkg/Contents/Resources/ (I'm assuming that the installer is on the desktop, but change the line above to wherever it is located). - chmod +x preflight postflight exit and reinstall. preflight and postflight are (unix) shell scripts that in this case perform some quick sanity checks. 'chmod +x' makes those files to be unix executables, which are not in this case. The installer is trying to execute these scripts but it can't (because are not executables) and fail. I'm wondering how this paased their QA tests... BTW: On a PB G4 1Ghz, it's a tad too slow to be fun to use, although version 2 seems faster than version 1. [alert admin]

iTele 0.5.0 (Mac OS X)

DVHS Support?

It would be great if it supported DVHS (i.e. MPeg2 Streams through FireWire from cable/satellite boxes, etc). [alert admin]

Apple iDVD 4.0.1 (Mac OS X)

DVD-RW Anyone?

Was anybody able to burn a DVD movie on a DVD-RW? For some unknown reason, iDVD refuses to use DVD-RW disks, which can be useful when sharing pictures at a friend's house, or for raw material. [alert admin]

Why doesn't this report Apple as a vendor?

The vendor is determined from the first 6 Hex digits from the device's MAC Address. MacStumbler comes with an abbreviated list of harware vendors. The official list is maintained at the IEEE: http://standards.ieee.org/regauth/oui/oui.txt
