Microsoft Expression Media 2.0.2096.0 (Mac OS X)
Still the best but still needs improvement
Use onMAC - I have used Expression Media (Used to be called Iview Media Pro) since years and despite numerous issues and flaws, there is NOTHING like it to keep track of and manipulate media files. I use it primarily for image files. I have thousands of image files and this is the only way I could keep track of them, send them out, change names, sizes, etc. easily. On the other hand, since Microsoft bought it, VERY LITTLE has been done for it and it needs a lot of help now. They have fixed some serious bugs, but there are still others. I have learned to put up with them and hope they still develop this app. If there were another out there that did the same stuff or near it, I would use it, but there are none. This is a VERY configurable app. If anyone knows of any other that comes close, PLEASE let me know as the bugs in it have gone unfixed for a year now. I am writing this to counter other neg reviews I have read. Yes, its a drag but what else is there? Apeture is not close. [alert admin]

Easy to use, top features, super flexible. Most of the renaming apps lose the "Comments" when you rename, This gives you a preference choice to keep "Comments" or not. This Previews the new changed names and also allows you to undo them, which most other do not. I tried it with many files and bought it immediately to keep them in business. It also keeps the original modification dates of the renamed files. Great app. [alert admin]

Nem 1.2 (Mac OS X)
Does not show you what it will do before it does it
This does not show you how it will rename the files. It is a very poor and confused interface which gives you no intuitive information about how to do what you need to do. Seems to be written by a programmer for geeks, not normal users AND it is not specific. For example, it says Truncate, you choose it, then it says how many characters and you enter a number and then it changes the names of the files without further warning or clarification or even asking the user how to truncate. Should it truncate from the end of the file name or the beginning? This is a really dangerous app as it can do permanent damage to your file structure. [alert admin]
