Alien Action Dome Revisited 1.1 (Mac OS X)
The author of this game, Slovis Software LLC, has vanished. The developer link now goes to a home mortgage site (does VT never clean its links? oh well). The only place to find Slovis games seems to be http://www.brothersoft.com/publisher/slovis_62257.html. VersionTracker Pro consistently tells me that I have Alien Action Dome Revisited v. 0.2, which is wrong. I actually have v. 1.1, which displays properly in the "Get Info". This "patch" no longer exists. Clicking on the "Download" button takes me to ftp://slovis.com/AADRevisited.sit/, which contains no files at all. Nothing is downloaded. If Versiontracker is paying attention, they should delist this patch as none of the links seem to work. [alert admin]

I first found this product with a general Internet search and landed on the developer's home page. I initially dismissed the product because the home space contains an obvious spelling error ("whether" is spelled "wether"). While this is a fairly trivial issue in the scheme of things, I wondered how a reputable developer who cared about his product and his customers would leave such a glaring mistake on his front page for years. Nonetheless, I came to Versiontracker to look at the comments. It appears that this developer is as casually careless about his product as he is about his marketing. I was curious to see that Versiontracker shows this as a 5 star product. A little scrutiny reveals that a single user made a positive comment about the product and the developer, giving the item 5 stars. Every other user who has commented has panned the product as unsupported and having various problems. So based on a single user's rating 18 months ago, this item shows a 5 star rating when it is obvious that most users (80% of them, based on the feedback here) do not consider it to be a 5 star product. The product appears to perform a useful function - if it worked, and if it did not risk deleting files that it shouldn't. I haven't found anything else that does what this claims to do. Too bad! Menu Extra Enabler 1.0.4 (Mac OS X)
This installer still falsely says it is "1.04". In fact, it is 1.03. [alert admin]

VersionTracker Pro 4.5.1 (Mac OS X)
The quality of service has slipped dramatically at Versiontracker. This year, I have attempted to contact customer service no fewer than 10 times over the space of a month to address an issue. I received auto-responses acknowledging my email, but I never received a single contact from a human being and the problem remains unaddressed. And today, a new problem. I downloaded 4.5.1 for my MacBook Pro laptop, which is running OS 10.4. Versiontracker 4.5.1 doesn't work, so I tried to reinstall 4.5. Versiontracker doesn't make it available. There are links to 4.5, but clicking on any link to "Download version 4.5" (or the like) gets you yet another download of 4.5.1. Very frustrating. Time was that Versiontracker not only had a quality product, but also provided top notch customer support. It is disappointing to seem them move so far from that ideal. Since their product no longer works for me, and they refuse to provide any customer service or support, I have no choice but to cancel my subscription. It's a shame, really. It used to be such a useful and well done product. [alert admin]

HourWorld 3.3.3 (Mac OS X)
This is a great product that works perfectly with Leopard. I initially had a problem with it, but the developer responded to my email within a couple of hours with a simple fix. The problem was not with the program, but was due to a corrupted prefs file on my end. I highly recommend this product! :) [alert admin]

HourWorld 3.3.3 (Mac OS X)
I have been using Hourworld since it was originally released and love it. When I initially upgraded to Leopard I had a problem resizing the window. I wrote to the developer, who responded within two hours with an easy fix, and it now works perfectly! When I first experienced the problem, I wrote a bad review on this site as a draft, then wrote to the developer. When I received such a prompt response with an easy fix, I went to close out the draft post only to find that it had been posted (obviously, I screwed something up). I promptly hit the "Admin" button and asked them to delete the post, but unfortunately the Versiontracker folks have ignored that request. [alert admin]

ASM 2.2.2 (Mac OS X)
I have an Intel Mac running Leopard. When I try to install ASM the installer runs, but when I try to open the preference pane I get a message that the software will not install on an Intel Mac. [alert admin]

Keyboard Maestro 2.0.3 (Mac OS X)
I've used this for a long time on my PowerPC G5, but I'm disappointed that it hasn't been updated in over 2 years and does NOT work on Intel Macs. That makes it useless to me on my MacBook Pro, and soon it will be useless to me on my desktop machine as well, after I upgrade that. The website at http://www.keyboardmaestro.com/main/ seems to be dead. The latest information under the "Information" pages is also more than 2 years old, there is no mention of Intel Macs even existing, much less an upgrade coming. I had expected better from Stairways. Live and learn. [alert admin]

Nanosaur 2 Hatchling 2.0.1 (Mac OS X)
This updater doesn't update anything. It appears to run, says the update has been applied, but the app still shows as 2.0. I've downloaded this multiple times since it was posted. IT DOESN'T WORK. [alert admin]

Alas, I agree. I've ditched both MaxMenus and Fruitmenu as a result. It's a shame, they were useful products.

It is curious that you are being asked to pay each time. I have used Eudora for many years, but have never had to pay for any updates. My last payment was in 2003 to upgrade to v.6. Since then I have applied every update, and use the current beta but have never been asked to pay a dime for the updates, only for the occasional major upgrade.
