InerziaTimer 1.1 (Mac OS X)

alarm doesn't sound any more...

I had been using Inerzia Timer happily, but after updating to 1.1, the alarm doesn't sound any more! I went into preferences and double-checked the volume control which is set at 100%. I then uninstalled this new version, re-installed version 1.0 and the alarm came back. I guess for now I'll stick with 1.0. (The 1.0 version I have says 3.8 Intl - maybe that makes a difference since my OS is in French?) [alert admin]

Default Folder X 4.1 (Mac OS X)

How did I ever live without it before???

I can't sing enough praises about this GREAT tool - and I'm a classical singer by profession! - and have been kicking myself for not having discovered Default Folder X till the Version Tracker e-mail newsletter of some two weeks ago. Heartfelt thanks to the developer for such a time- and life-saver. [alert admin]

Apple iTunes 7.7 (Mac OS X)

Beware! this version corrupts accented characters

If you have tracks with accented characters (such as é, è, ê, ö...) in title & artist names, this version corrupts them when you play the track or get its info! Please check out this article from Tidbits for a workaround that's good for mp3s only. Sure hope Apple will come up with a fix real soon for us classical musicians with tons of accented characters in our libraries! For once I'm not recommending iTunes unless you don't mind correcting the corrupted characters manually... [alert admin]

Microsoft Office 2004 11.3.4 (Mac OS X)

seems to work fine, and even (seems to have) improved multi-lingual use in Entourage

Even though Microsoft did not mention this "fringe benefit", this update seems to have cleared up an annoying problem in Entourage when composing mail in different languages. For example, if I just finished an e-mail in French and switched to write another in English by selecting "English (US)" under Tools/Change Dictionary, *most of the time* the spell-checker would 'forget' to switch over accordingly. The only way to get rid of those red squiggly lines was to choose the new language, save the new mail, log out and log back in, and do the same again when switching again. Well, I sure hope I haven't spoken too soon... [alert admin]

SoundConverter 20040909 (Mac OS X)

PLEASE be fair to the developer for an excellent product

at an excellent price! I am a classical musician by trade and have been extremely embarrassed to read various posts here that complain about the $10 licensing fee, when one considers how well this software does what it does plus the instant and most obliging tech support. For comparison: I have to spend (on this side of the Atlantic) more than $10 for two DAT tapes to use with my Sony walkman recorder, to tape live performances esp. on tour when a laptop is not an option or is less convenient. To me - and I daresay to anyone even remotely in the music business - paying $50 for five different licenses would be and is indeed a bargain. Finally, I agree whole-heartedly with blueskyis_dotmac that "It's too bad a product that works so perfectly gets 1 star ratings due to a trivial $10 license fee." Such repeated ratings - sometimes by the same persons - simply do not reflect the true value of this godsend. [alert admin]

Camino 0.8 (Mac OS X)

much faster than Safari until I tried to log in here...

It took a long, long time, much longer than I remembered from Safari, even though Camino 0.8 was very, very fast as I logged into other secure sites. Anyone else noticed the same thing? Or is this a function of the VersionTracker website? [alert admin]

FrenchTVNews 1.0 (Mac OS X)

to answer John Petty's question as to WHY

as a Paris-based world citizen, methinks it a darn good idea to gather as much info as possible, not only from French news channels but also German, UK, Swiss... even Asian ones in addition to the 'standard' US news media. And preferably in their native language at that! [alert admin]

SoundConverter 20040409 (Mac OS X)

Excellent product, great price and superb tech support

I had trouble batch-converting aiff files from my DAT recorder into mp3, so contacted the developer Steve Dekorte about it. He immediately asked for a sample file, and within a couple of days came up with this latest version which fixed the OS 10.2 bug. A Window$-user musician friend happened to call up just when I had successfully converted the first batch, and upon hearing me 'gloat' about this product including the great price, she said, "just where did you come up with this pirate software?" Arrrrrrrrgh! I had to explain to her no no no, this is perfectly legit and that it was the developer himself who provided the fix in hardly any time at all. So my thanks to Steve also for allowing this 1.5-year-old 'Switcher' to preach the Mac gospel to many 'infidels' out there! ;-) [alert admin]

Option key for accent problem

Which keyboard are you using? I've been using the French Canadian CSA keyboard for years, which is QWERTY with the most frequent accented letters in convenient places without having to use the option key. (I mean é, É, è, È, à, À, ç, Ç, whereas ^ and ¨ are also regular one-stroke keys that wait for you to put the letter under it. As for ` and ´, they do take the option key.) Maybe this…

Ive been hearing

Gennx30 wrote, "He says her was going through a breakup fine, but why make us suffer?" Huh??? How is the developer of this *freeware* making any of us 'suffer' at (his own personal) breakup time? Surely he doesn't owe us any such 'devotion', not even to those who had donated for this (I repeat) freeware...

Beware! this version corrupts accented characters

Good news: version 7.7.1 fixes the accent problem! (In 7.7, if you only looked at the track & artist names in the main window without actually playing the track or get its info, the accented letters still appeared correctly. It's when you play it, get its info or even just move it from one playlist to another, that the accented letters get corrupted.) Kudos to Apple for coming up with this fix so quickly!

Problem with Euro signs and prior versions of Firefox 3.0

actually the Euro sign shows up fine in Firefox 2.0.0.15. I think the problem is the page design at the website for which you provided a link. Please check out this link where the € shows up just fine in Firefox 2.0.0.15 on my MacBook.

Still waiting

>So we are supposed to email our PayPal transaction number to them, which I did and still no reply That wasn't the case for me at all. Within 12 hours (on a weekend) after I made the payment via PayPal, I received an e-mail with a link to download the licensed version. Maybe there's a problem with your e-mail address? Just a wild guess as I wish you luck...

Be carfully 2

> If one of us has trouble understanding the software, I would say that is the problem of the developer not the user. Software for the Mac needs to be dumbed down as much as possible because we live in a dumbed down generation. Well, dumbing down or not, if you looked at the previous post by mcleod_68, you would see that his iPhone is unlocked. Which may or may not have caused the strange problems…

1.1.3 Update Still Missing Important Features

Sorry, cbell3, I must beg to differ as the "root problem" here is NOT the amount of spam anyone gets but that the important "delete all" is still not available. I for one hardly get any spam (knock on wood), but with all the 'clean' mails that I get in different accounts, the ability to delete all selected mails would still be a most welcome time-saver. That and the cut and paste...
