Full Tilt Poker 4.9 (Mac OS X)

If youre having trouble with the download...

When you download the full tilt mac client, you download a 17 MB file named download.php. This is wrong. To open it properly, rename the download to "download.dmg" instead of download.php Next, open it with disk utility and it will mount the game installer on your desktop. I havent tried it yet, dont know or recommend the software, just helped a friend figure out what was wrong. Oh, and hey developer, fix your website so it allows the mac to download the installer properly. People cant open your game client, and that cant be good for business. [alert admin]

Play Sound 1.6.5 (Mac OS X)

Amazingly simple. Much needed.

I can't imagine this wasnt high on the list of anyone who used any Mac OS prior to X. Apple of course wants any sound file channeled through iTunes (and hence the iTunes store) this has brought some mch needed simple and fun functionality back to the Mac. Heres a fun tip: make a funny sound sippit (use quicktime or soundapp) then assign it to Play Sound, and drop it in a friends startup items in their account pref pane. Laughter ensues! [alert admin]

Kids Server 1.4.0 (Mac OS X)

whining about cost is unproductive

Have you tried the software? Are you ticked off that the price is above $20? The software is shareware, in that its available for a trial version, the person writing it is a single developer. The cost being high is just what it is, if you don't like the price, I suggest not buying it. But reviewing things and whining about the price is soooo annoying I had to reply. The developer will see that his price is high when people dont buy it, or he wont. [alert admin]

Flock 0.7.1 (Mac OS X)

Great Idea. Needs work.

First, let me say I love the idea. Integrate the best and most popular web services right into your browser? Sign me up. My Flickr, my Blog, my delicious bookmarks at my fingertips is just terrific. But the browser behaves poorly. A new page opens after a maddening pause. Buttons in the toolbar move and redraw improperly. Some website text cannot be selected, some pages when rendered behave strangley to the point of it not being usable. I will try to report my findings to the devs, as Im not willing to give it up, I love the ideas they have built into their web browser model. If you would also find the integration of these web services intriguing, give it a try and lets all watch the progress. [alert admin]

SyncBack Freeware 3.2.8.500 (Windows NT, Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows ME, Windows XP, Windows 2000)

Re: not freeware... there are 2 versions people.

There is a pro version for $15 and this freeware version. Read for comprehension. [alert admin]

Symantec Uninstaller 1.0.2 (Mac OS X)

waiting for this, but still waiting...

If you own a norton antivirus product for Mac OS X, you probably know that uninstalling it is a complex process. You also know that there were problems with the earlier versions that could make your mac shut down to a blue screen and hang, etc. Now this uninstaller is here, promising to fix the mess. Except launching it does nothing, the app doesnt start. So back to the drawing board guys. [alert admin]

Lightning Bugz Screensaver 1.2.3 (Mac OS X)

Nice

Sweet, unobtrusive. Fun. Nice. Doesnt need to be 3d, doesnt need to be optioned to death. Doesn't need to be opengl. Whats wrong with a little Mac OS 8? Certainly doesnt need to be whined about. Great job. [alert admin]

A reissue

So software shouldn't cost money? You dont review the software, you complain about the price. You work into your review 3-4 mentions of another FTP which is not a feature to feature comparison application. This software is targeted to businesses that need simple and easy to administer FTP.

Nice db but...

mow a lawn, shovel a driveway, bingo there's your moola. Things cost money, the "it cost too much" argument is lame. If its a good tool and it helps you, pay for it. Or don't. But don't haggle. I spend more than that on a few brushes and supplies at Pearl Art any day.

This is for Windows and UNIX shared disks...

impact of macs? SInce when? From what, .ds_store files? Any idiot knows how to hide .files on windows servers, and if your windows user has views set to show invisible files, tell him now he can enjoy our invisible files too.

Dumb Question from a Newbie?

Well, in a broadband forum I read today, a person using dialup 56k internet access was frustrated with his connection speed. He searched for and found a neighbor using a wireless network, with a highspeed connection. He contacted the neighbor who agreed to let him piggyback on his connection and in return the person helped out with a small payment to help the neighbor pay his internet bill.
