licensing too cumbersome, too expensive, breaks Mail.app

I was seriously disappointed with PGP and I don't think it's a Mac-only issue. The reason I investigated PGP in the first place was my need for a reliable, cross-platform encryption solution for disk images (i.e. like the .DMG you can create with Disk Utility on the Mac).

Installation of PGP was a real pain - it broke my SSL-connection to my IMAP/SMTP-Server and I had to google for a solution. And license as well as its verification is really obnoxious. The license has a prohibitive price of well over 200 USD (this may also be an issue with the tendency to rip off Europeans, Adobe does it too) and covers only very limited number of updates and support time frame.

On the bright side: the disk image encryption worked quite well and was well integrated with key management overall. Due to the issues mentioned above I'll stick with encrypted ZIP-files when crossplatform is needed and will wait for a Mac version of TrueCrypt for a real solution.

I haven't tested mail encryption as none of my counterparties use it as of now. [alert admin]

FLV Viewer 0.3 (Mac OS X)

Unfortunately alpha (but only FLV Player available?)

This app plays the one FLV file I wanted to play, but the interface is cumbersome. A better alternative to play FLV files would be most welcome (and no 40 USD is not in the range). Perhaps VLC can pick it up? [alert admin]

iPhotoToGallery 0.61 (Mac OS X)

great plugin, does not yet work on Intel Macs (?)

iPhotoToGallery 0.61 works great on my Powerbook, however it doesn't do anything on my Intel iMac: it installs without a hitch, but it doesn't show up in the Export menu. Unfortunately iPhoto can't be forced to start in Rosetta (at least I don't see the option in the Get Info dialogue like in Safari). Tips are welcome ... Donald [alert admin]
