FLV Crunch 1.2 (Mac OS X)

WTF???

OK, so this sounds good, so I clicked on the "Download Now" link and I got taken to a webpage that's a quiz for the animated TV show "Family Guy!" So, I'm not sure what the f*ck is going on but I think this might be some kind of scam?? Just thought I'd post a word to the wise here, so, beware!! [alert admin]

Duplicate Files Searcher 2.1 (Mac OS 9, Mac OS X)

OK, WTF???

OK, so I click "Download Now" and I get a file named "uYPLmP7t.zip.part" and I double-click it and I get an error message saying: "There is no default application specified to open the document." So, I go to the developer's website and there's NO help there, and no way to contact them, of course, so, WTF do I do now? Aside from tossing this P.O.S. in the Trash and moving on, that is. (FWIW, I'm on a Mac running OS 10.4.11) [alert admin]

SubSyncX 1.0 (Mac OS X)

Get it here...

The download links above seem to be dead, but I found a copy of SubSyncX available for free download on a Romanian webpage: http://web.mac.com/altero/altero/Soft_EN.html Good luck! [alert admin]

Scans2PDF 1.5 (Mac OS X)

Only works with CS3!

So, this sounded interesting, so I downloaded it and selected a folder of scans to test it out with and launched it and it gave me an error message saying that it ONLY works with Adobe Photoshop CS3!! Since I have Photoshop Elements, it won't work for me, so I dumped it. So, if you have CS3, great, give it a try, but if you don't, move on, brother, there's nothing for you here! [alert admin]

Percentages 0.1.6 (Mac OS X)

Not too shabby!

I was looking for a widget thingy that would emulate a Percentage Wheel (if you're a graphic artist, you'll know what that is) and found this instead. There is NO "ReadMe" file of any kind whatsoever, so it's a bit tricky to figure out by trial and error. A visit to the developer's website revealed some basic instructions and, once you get the hang of it, it works pretty well, actually. Not precisely what I was looking for, but it did ultimately do the job, so I give it a hesitant "thumbs up." [alert admin]

Music Man 2.7 (Mac OS X)

THIS one works!...

I tried a BUNCH of various different utilities and programs to convert some .wma files to .mp3 and this one was the ONLY one that worked! True, the interface is a bit odd (for example, now that I’ve converted the 17 files I wanted to do, there is apparently NO way to delete them from the "Convert" window list) but, heck, it did what I wanted, so, a big "thumbs up" from me!! All2MP3 1.04 (Mac OS X)

Not so fast, pal...

So, based on the lone rave review below I downloaded this, installed it, dragged a .wma file into it, clicked the button, and... instantly got an "Applescript Error" message saying that it's unable to open this, or any, file, so, despite the glowing review below, I'd say SKIP IT!! [alert admin]

CalendarMenu 0.2 (Mac OS X)

If you have OS 10.4...

Hi, I just wanted to mention here that, since CalendarMenu is ONLY for OS 10.5, Mac users who have OS 10.4 could try MyMenuDate which is available elsewhere on versiontracker and does pretty much the exact same thing, and, no, I'm not connected with it in any way, I'm just a helpful guy, that's all! ;-) [alert admin]

NotePad 2.6b1 (Mac OS X)

Very cool!

This is very extremely cool, and fills a definite need! The only change I'd make is to allow the user to choose the font and font size in Preferences. Now, I'm NOT talking about making this into some kind of full-featured text editor, but, on the other hand, some of us don't see so good anymore, so the ability to choose which font and that font's size, would be a big help to some folks. Otherwise, I'd give this a big thumbs up!! [alert admin]

Show & Hide 1.0 (Mac OS X)

Excellent!!!

Wow, this is just great! It just does exactly what it says it does, no more, no less, which is exactly what I was looking for. My only quibble is that although its name is "Show & Hide" and the description says: "...freeware to show and hide invisible files," when you use it, for some odd reason the buttons on the control panel read "Make Visible" and "Make Invisible." It really would have made MUCH more sense if they said: "Show Invisibles" and "Hide Invisibles", but that's just a truly minor quibble, it's otherwise really excellent and I recommend it very highly!! WTF???

Well, how about letting your customers know what you just told me in advance, so that they don't get a weird shock and surprise when they try to download your program but get taken to some weird webpage they weren't expecting... you could say that in your "Product Description" area and let us know in advance what to expect!!

omnidea rulers

Yes, yes, yes, thank you for saying exactly what I’ve long thought... I am frequently appalled at the TOTAL lack of any kind of ReadMe file or Instructions of ANY kind missing from so much software here. OK, I guess that since it's "freeware" you get what you pay for, but, still, just what the heck is the point of writing and producing a whole entire software program if only, like, 1 or 2% of…
