iPod Access 4.2 (Mac OS X)

Duplicate Song Checking Update

The duplicate song problem described by some users when adding to iTunes or cloning playlists has now been fixed in v4.2. For iPod Access to decide that a song already exists in iTunes the ID3 tags of the songs must match. If the Song Name, Artist, Album, Track Number, duration, bitrate or file type is different on either the iPod or iTunes they will be considered 2 different songs. When using the "Add to iTunes" or "Clone Playlist" functions of iPod Access this criteria is used to determine if the songs already exist before the copy takes place. If the file does exist then a link to the song or video in the library will be used in the playlist. This should now work properly for all iPod, iPhone and iPod Touch users. Special thanks to all the users who helped troubleshoot this issue. [alert admin]

iPod Access 4.0.4 (Mac OS X)

Re: Followup to last post...

Kevin, I am sorry you find the need to blame this issue on iPod Access. When your iPod syncs with iTunes only iTunes and your iPod are involved. iPod Access does not and can not interfere. The fact that double playlists are showing up on your iPod is a problem with iTunes or your iPod. Although I admit we took longer than we should have to respond to your issue we were trying extremely hard to recreate your problem on any of our test machines. What we found is that other iTunes users (who are not iPod Access users) were experiencing the same problem. We sent you a link to the apple discussion forums where people were discussing the problem. In the end we refunded your money (which I noted you did not mention in your review) not because our program failed to work but instead as a courtesy. [alert admin]

iPod Access for Windows 2.9.1 (Windows NT, Windows XP, Windows 2000)

iPod must be in Manual Mode

To avoid iTunes erasing your iPod your iPod must be put into Manual Mode. For all iPods except the Shuffle: ***************************************************** - Start iTunes. - Connect the iPod. With iTunes in front, immediately hold down the keys command-option (Mac OS X) or shift-control-alt (Windows XP/2000). When the iPod appears in the iTunes source column, wait five seconds, then release the keys. This will skip the automatic iPod update. - Set the iPod preferences to "Manually manage songs and playlists". This disables the automatic iPod update. To open the iPod preferences, select the iPod within iTunes source column, then click onto the upcoming iPod icon at the right bottom of the iTunes window (the left icon). For the iPod shuffle: ***************************************************** Although the iPod Shuffle can not be put into manual mode songs can syill be successfully transfered.iPod Access will allow you to transfer songs from your shuffle to your computer but it will not prevent an automatic update if iTunes is opened. For this reason it is recommended iPod shuffle users restore data to a computer or user account other than the one to which the shuffle is linked. - Connect the shuffle to a computer that it is NOT linked to. - Open iTunes. When the iTunes dialog asks you to re-link your shuffle DO NOT press either button. - Open iPod Access. - Select the songs form the lower window to copy. - Press the "Copy" button in the Toolbar above. - Select a folder to copy the music into. - After the copy is finished quit iPod Access. - In iTunes click NO in the dialog asking to re-link your shuffle - Under the file menu in Itunes select "Add Folder to Library" (or "Add to Library" on Mac OSX) and select the same folder you copied all of the music into. iPod Access 3.3 (Mac OS X)

What iPod Access has to offer.

The previous program mentioned does not display your music by Artist and Album titles, clone Playlists into iTunes, recover songs from damaged databases, allow file re-naming options or remove non-PC characters from file names to allow backup to PC disks. iPod Access does all of these. To avoid any issues...

For iPod Access to work properly your iPod must be set to Manual Update Mode as described when the program is launched for the first time.

- Start iTunes.
- Connect the iPod. With iTunes in front, immediately hold down the keys command-option (Mac OS X) or shift-control-alt (Windows XP/2000). When the iPod appears in iTunes source column, wait five seconds, then release the keys.
[alert admin]

iPod Access 3.1 (Mac OS X)

If experiencing problems:

  1. Download a fresh copy of the most recent version of iPod Access.
  2. You need to set your iPod to manually update. This is done from within iTunes by selecting the first button in the lower right of the window.
  3. Your iPod must be set to Firewire Disk mode. This is also done in iTunes by selecting the first button in the lower right of the window.
  4. Turn on the "Remove Special Characters" option in the iPod Access settings.
  5. Confirm that the "Copy Files to iTunes Music Folder when adding to Library" option is checked in the Advanced tab of the preferences of iTunes for the iTunes integration to work properly.
  6. You have the most recent version of iTunes.
  7. There can also be an issue if you are trying to copy to a firewire drive that is connected to the same port as your iPod. The iPod needs a certain amount of power from the firewire port and some drives (especially drives without extra power connectors) will eat up most of it. If this is the case try connecting your iPod directly to the computer without the drive and try to copy a couple songs.
  8. If you have an iSight camera for the same reason as above it should be unplugged.

wrecking windows ipods

This software does absolutly nothing to windows iPods. I find it very unfortunate that you would make such a claim. This is macintosh software and cannot be run on a Windows machine. If your iPod is not meant to attach to a macintosh then I would caution you against doing so.

Please be sure that ...

A couple of things you should check. 1) You are using the most current version of iPod software http://www.apple.com/ipod/ 2) In iTunes you have selected Firewire disk mode for your iPod. You may have to set your iPod to manually update. When you select your iPod in iTunes there will be 4 buttons along the bottom of the window. Push the one on the left (the one with the little iPod symbol on it.) The preferences window it opens…
