SimplyDisk 2.0.4 (Mac OS X)

No better program than this for creating disk images!!!

No other program in this category even comes close. And I've tried them all: DMG Designs, DMG Packager, Drop DMG, DMG Converter, etc. etc. Beautiful user interface. So simple to use that you don't even have to read the help section. Create a disk image with a background picture, icon, license and encryption. It has everything. This is how software should be (and often, especially in this category, isn't). Highly recommended. By the way, the price shown (12.95) is actually Euros not Dollars (so it's slightly higher). I found that out when I bought it. But well worth it for sure! [alert admin]

ScreenFlow 1.1 (Mac OS X)

GREAT FEATURES... AND NO MORE BUTs!!!

I'm responding to my own comments submitting before on this page and to the great new revise of this program (version 1.1). I had reservations before this version. But not anymore. This developer seems really committed to creating a great screencasting/screen recording program. And boy do they have it now! They cleaned up the bugs and added even more new features to an already great feature list! I just felt an obligation to write this after giving the program a 2 star rating last time. With this revise: 5 stars all the way. Highly recommended! [alert admin]

ScreenFlow 1.0.2 (Mac OS X)

GREAT FEATURES, BUT...

Have been using the program for a few months now (in trail mode). Beats out Snapz Pro in every way. Great features: zoom in/out of any section of the screen/at any time of the movie (determined at the editing stage, yes, there's an editing stage, not during the initial recording); ability to add multiple tracks (audio/video) similar to Final Cut (again, in the editing stage); when clicking the mouse, a click sound can be recorded; if wanted, the keys pressed will show up on the screen as type; the cursor can be highlighted, in different ways, at any time; and lots more. I especially like saving a recording in the H.264 codec (small file size/good qualtiy). In Snapz Pro, using H.264, the final result is always washed out and not true to the original color. In ScreenFlow, I've noticed a big improvement over Snapz Pro, the color in H264 is pretty close to the original screen. So, I hear you say, with all these great features, why did I give such a bad star rating. Answer: STABILITY!!! This program constantly crashes. It has a few other minor bugs and a few strange window settings for saving (all of which, I think, will eventually be straightened out). But stability is key. Without that, all the rest doesn't matter. And I'm sure the developers know about this problem, because they added a 'try to restore' feature after a crash. Bottom line: I create screen casts all the time and I wish this thing would work without the constant crash problems. But until it is a lot more stable (the next version or so?) I'm keeping the 100 bucks under my pillow. [alert admin]

FruitMenu 3.7b2 (Mac OS X)

Where did you get that screen shot?

Where did you get that screen shot? Looks like something from the old OS9 days. Really, why not update it, it’s getting yellow with age and looks awful. Now that that minor point is said, this last beta version of Fruit Menu is working great for me. Running Leopard 10.5.2 with no problems. Have been using this app for many years and it’s nice to know that they’ve continued development into Leopard. It’s one of my favorite programs. [alert admin]

LCDTest 1.1 (Mac OS X)

Excellent!!!

Excellent little program. Works exactly as advertised. Reassuring if you have no dead pixels. And a sad reality if you do. [alert admin]

DMG Designs 1.1.3 (Mac OS X)

Trail period/try out problem

The above opinion notwithstanding (Excellent, excellent, excellent...), the user interface is a little complicated to figure out in the beginning. Which brings me to my point: the trail period problem. You are given a certain amount of 'try outs" at creating the disk image you want. After that the program doesn't work anymore. The problem is that you are not told how many total 'try outs' you have in the beginning (I guess maybe 10), or even how many you have left. So you play around a bit with all the different options, and there are many, trying this, trying that, and then all of a sudden, before you get what you want, or figure out that this is the software you want to buy, you're told the trail is ended and you have to buy it or forget it. So you know what: I said forget it. The amount of 'try outs' is too low to really try this thing out! This looks like a good program (maybe), but I never had a chance to find out for sure. A message to the developer: please come up with a better trail format, say like a week of unlimited 'try outs." I don't think that is asking too much. [alert admin]

Can someone help?

In response to: I'm just trying to figure out how to install this app in "utilities", not "applications". Onyx doesn't give you the option of what folder to install it in (you only have the choice for the Hard Drive location). It will install into the Hard Drive’s Applications Folder. If you want it in the Utilities folder, after installation, simply take it out of Applications and move it in to Utilities. Won't affect it.
