PocketMac for BlackBerry 3.12 (Mac OS X)

PocketMac for BB 3.x

This is not 1.0, it's 3.x which has been available for quite some time. The only thing new is the lower price: I paid $30 for this a year ago, free is an even better price. ;) [alert admin]

Synergy 2.3 (Mac OS X)

2.3? No, 2.3 RC1

Acc to the developer's site (http://wincent.com/a/products/synergy-classic/history/) this is properly 2.3 RC1, not the final release of 2.3 yet. Major changes: It is now a universal binary and is updated with a new version of Growl. ps - Synergy continues to be fantastic. Thanks! [alert admin]

PodTunesColor 0.2 (Mac OS X)

cute, but impractical start

certainly a cute project, but it still suffers from growing pains. on a high-res monitor, the controller is too small to be legible. long track names run off the display without any scrolling. you have to click twice to be able to drag it (once to bring it to the foreground, second to select it), unlike other apps where you activate the foreground and gain control with the first click. obviously it's not as practical as a menubar/hotkey controller even if it were perfect, but it's free and has potential for some future fun, with further development. Apple iTunes 5.0 (Mac OS X)

Nice

Not at all a fan of the Tiger-ish look, but it's a must-have because (1) it's much more responsive and (2) the "parental" controls finally allow you to easily block sharing on the LAN. Groovy! [alert admin]

xPort 3.2 (Mac OS X)

Pretty nice

This is a pretty nice iPod util, as they go. Easy iTunes-like interface, including browsing and information window. Search function works well. However, Java is very slow and this thing takes a while to read a large iPod. Personally, I still prefer PodWorks, which is very fast, cheaper, also supports playlists, and also exports into organized folders. [alert admin]

RDC Menu 1.01 (Mac OS X)

Useful & Free

Nifty util for easily launching multiple RDC connections from the menubar or dock. It would be perfect if it also maintained a list of recent connections or favorites, so you can access them with one click rather than launching RDC first. The blurry menubar icon could also use a redesign. However, it's free and does what it claims to do. Thanks [alert admin]

Transmit 3.1 (Mac OS X)

Very nice (but also check out other free options)

Transmit is great. And although it's prob the most expensive of its class, it's a solid package and I'm not going to argue against the price.... for those who need the advanced interface. However, if you're just looking for an FTP/SFTP util, check out the free CyberDuck and Fugu. If the demo of Transmit convinces you that you need what extra it offers, then by all means enjoy. Again, it's a nice app by good Mac developers and I support their commercial efforts wholeheartedly. But please be aware that there are more options these days. [alert admin]

SnapNDrag 1.6 (Mac OS X)

Fantastic

Who woulda thunk that the best screen grab util is freeware? There's no reason NOT to download this. Bonus: I e-mailed last week about a slight plist snafu and it's already fixed. Great product, great support, free. Now if it would make me breakfast in the morning and do my taxes, I'd marry it. [alert admin]

Beware of user error

SPX is a fantastic app and works great. don't let ignorant user error dissuade you from trying it out.

How do I update?

v.10 is a commercial upgrade from v.9. you can't just update, you have to buy it. once you've bought and installed v.10, you can then download 10.0.x updates through LiveUpdate. personally, in most cases, I would recommend uninstalling Norton altogether and leaving it be.

it works fine with Exchange on multiple systems. why not troubleshoot your own problems before you make outlandish generalizations.

observations

folders are a convenient way for people with a lot of playlists to organize them. instead of scrolling threw dozens, you can now divide them by genre or tempo or occasion or whatever you'd like. what you're suggesting would be the same idea within a playlist itself, which might be a good idea, but that doesn't make the new feature any less useful.

QuesTion..

if you manage your iPod manually, you don't need a special utility. turn off automatic ipod updates in iTunes, so the local library won't overwrite your iPod contents. then you can drag & drop whatever you want to your iPod from any library on any computer.
