VisualHub 1.33a (Mac OS X)

Tad Unreliable

It worked fine for me on one file jobs. Stitching and converting as it should. However when I tried to convert 10 or so files from AVI to MP4 it locked my machine solid on numerous occasions. Had to use toast instead. Which is not as fast but just keeps going. [alert admin]

EyeTV 3.0.2 (Mac OS X)

Had to go back to 2.0

I would not upgrade. I tried 3.0 and it was just so ugly and difficult to see in the editing mode with all that blackness. If 2.0 is working ok for you there really is no reason to move. [alert admin]

iDefrag 1.6.5 (Mac OS X)

Good.

I have been using this since it came out and it is really good. Yes you can all pretend that the mac OS with it's little defrags at startup are enough. And they are, if you are just doing a bit of emailing and text docs, with the odd photo thrown in. If however you are moving big files in and out, which I am, iDefrag is survival toolkit. Along with Disk Warrior and Superduper. This trinity of tools has kept my rig running sweet and fast for a long time. I just defraged a Leopard HD from a Leopard HD and all went well. Started up on the drive and it was fine, Glad you are back boys! And sorry I was taking the P a while back, missed being able to defrag in Leopard. Cheers [alert admin]

EyeTV 3.0 (Mac OS X)

Getting harder to use.

I agree with the previous poster. Cosmetically it sucks. With the black background I feel I have to be very careful about where I click cause it is not easy to see. What I can not believe is that when compacting we are now looking a number to show progress, instead of the comforting progress bar. I guess the designers think it looks swish, but when that swishness becomes an obstacle to the function one has to wonder... I started using version 1.8 over a year ago and was thrilled by how clear and user friendly it was. I have been disappointed at every upgrade. Every time it is harder to see and takes more click of the mouse to get you where you want to go. [alert admin]

EyeTV 2.5.2 (Mac OS X)

It does a lot but.......

I use this with Eye TV 200 and it works well. I like this soft but two things really annoy me. One is that it always says my Divx component is not installed when it IS. And the BIG ONE. Why can't we use a 24 hour clock when setting recording times? I mean, hang on, 12:45 AM is like......erh, right, that is... yeah! Just after lunch. Na! Come on guys. All schedules are 24 hour to avoid silly mistakes. 00:45 does not require a thought. A no brainer. [alert admin]

Logitech Control Center 2.4.0 (Mac OS X)

Don't Bother updating.....

I had to uninstall too. It worked badly with EyeTV pausing the live window when anywhere near. Also would not let go of windows in Toast and was very shakey with Safari. Bummer, a real step back. Have installed the previous version again and it is fine. [alert admin]

Synchronize! Pro X 5.1.3 (Mac OS X)

Bootable backup, yes but not a clone.

It is good for sycing folders but if you are used to getting an exact copy of your drive, as I have been with Superduper, you will be disappointed. It is also expensive. If you want a clone, Carbon Copy Cloner is free. Superduper, which is half the price, is a one trick pony that performs it's trick to perfection, with speed and grace. [alert admin]

iDefrag 1.6.3 (Mac OS X)

I like it but, you got to laugh!

I have used this ever since it first came out and I am impressed by the work it has done for me on my hard drives. After it has finished with a full optimize you just know that the heads on your drive are working more easily. Performance is improved. What makes me laugh is the wording when they say. Leopard is not compatible with our software. Come on boys, just admit it. Your software is not compatible with Leopard. You will feel better for it. [alert admin]

Audio Hijack Pro 2.8d2 (Mac OS X)

Works with Leopard, just.

I like this application. It is well laid out and straight forward to use. The features make all types of recording possible. Without Instant Hijack though, it is quite difficult to use. To start recording from some apps it will ask to quit and restart the app. That works with some apps but not with Realplayer. I found that I can get the connection by click starting Realplayer from the component window of Audio Hijack. Hope this is useful. [alert admin]

Little Snitch 2.0 (Mac OS X)

It Just Went From Good To Great

I don't feel secure unless I have this app installed. Have been using it for years. In this version you get more info on the apps that are calling out. It all became more friendly and clear. Well worth the upgrade fee. [alert admin]

Unstable

Conflicts badly with iTunes on my Intel Mini. Both Eyetv and iTunes stop responding. Sometimes only a hard restart will sort it.

Conflict with iTunes

When I use both EyeTV and iTunes they both lock up and will not force quit. Have to hard restart. I like the features and it's flexibility but break into a sweat if I open iTunes by mistake...

Conflict with iTunes

This is a good program as long as you don't try to use it with iTunes open. There is a huge conflict there. They both stop responding and won't force quit calling for a hard restart. Not good, most people have iTunes open all the time.
