Web Validator 1.4.2 (Mac OS 9, Mac OS X)
XHTML 1.1 & XHTML Basic 1.0 Support
The developers of Web Validator said that they'll add support for XHTML 1.1 and XHTML Basic 1.0 someday, but that they have other projects they prefer to work on now, instead. If this program were free, that would be fair. But, it's shareware--they expect payment even though they won't keep it updated, which is disappointing. [alert admin]

Epson TWAIN and Scan Utility 1.25A (Mac OS X)
My experience is the the 1.25A software *will* work with Panther, but you have to run the EPSON Scan application (which 1.25A puts in the Application folder) to set which scanner you have, first. Once you've set the scanner, the software works correctly. If you don't set the scanner, then trying to scan in will result in applications crashing. (BTW, you only have to set the scanner once--not each time before scanning.) [alert admin]

FontCard 1.0.2 (Mac OS X)
The problem with using FontSight instead is that it doesn't support Carbon applications, and Stone Designs says it has no intention of adding Carbon support. So, at present, it's a tossup--FontSight if you value Cocoa apps more--FontCard if you value Carbon apps more (at least until Unsanity implements Cocoa support). [alert admin]

Link Checker X 1.1.6 (Mac OS X)
I've found Link Checker to be invaluable. Plus, the author responded to my e-mails and even implemented a suggestion I had. This is one of the best programs I've seen, and it keeps getting better! [alert admin]

Novell GroupWise Client 5.2.8 (Mac OS 9)
Emailandmore client cancelled; Novell Java version avail.
Emailandmore says that it has cancelled development of its own GroupWise client, because Novell's Java client (under development) will work under OSX. Novell is currently having a public beta of its Java version; you can sign up for it at www.novell.com/products/groupwise/nix.html [alert admin]

VirtualLab 1.2.4 (Mac OS 9, Mac OS X)
this should be renamed VirtuallyWorthless. The OSX version crashes frequently, and both OS9 and OSX versions stall. Tech support 's first response was extremely rude, and when I provided more information about problems I was having with the program, they never wrote back. The program is poor at recovering files as well--probably a 99% failure rate in my case--you'd be better off using Norton Utilities and saving some money, because the result couldn't be any worse.
